Post by plivez »

Anyone got experience of biking / motoring in Metz area of France.
I have been tasked with sorting out days motorcycling starting and ending there in a months time and have no idea what to expect. :?

Not exactly, I don't know the area immediately around Metz well having only travelled through it on the way to somewhere else.

I don't think the immediate area around Metz is that great but go a little way south and I can vouch for the countryside in the area around Nancy being quite pleasant and also to the north Around Trier in Germany.Image

My usual ploy when sorting out rides in France is to go to the Michelin Map site HERE and look for the roads edged in green. These are the scenic roads and usually more interesting for riding if you know what I mean

Why Metz? There are much better biking areas such as the Ardennes to the north of Charleville Les Mesieurs

Metz is an excellent place to base from.

North Luxembourd and Ardennes, excellent riding.

North-West Eifel in Germany, excellent riding.

West Hunsruck in Germany, excellent riding.

South-West Vosges in France, excellent riding

South-West Black Forrest a little further in Germany, excellent riding.

All are reachable for daytrips. Metz itself has an old city center, and can be quite entertaining to have a few drinks.

just got back from t'other side.

2 hrs from Metz is Oppenau/Baden-Baden

we had a b&b for 16€ a room (for 2) and a secure garage for good measure.

Metz is great if you like straight undulating roads
