Gavin - sorry can't comment on the new HG Master jacket but I've been using a Master IV for the last 2 years which has been superb. Totally waterproof, warm, can be vented easily, very nicely put together too and with the HG being German they tend to cater much better for lanky souls like me ie the arms are long enough (a problem I have with lots of other jackets is their arms are too short).
If I was after a replacement for mine the Master 5 would be at the top of my list.

I had a new HG PSX TRICKY jacket

Unfortunately I did not like it, my main complaint was that I could not get a pair of ordinary gloves over the wrists of the jacket and it seemed unnecessarily bulky.
Sold it on ebay and went for a Dainese.

I have had the tricky jacket for 5 years or so, its faded a bit, the outer pockets leak and the collar velcro has gone and its a bit frayed round the edges - but it still doesn't leak and gets daily abuse on the bike and on building sites.
Bought goretex trousers (can't remember which) from HG and the zip broke within weeks - never got round to taking them back.. They don't leak either.
HG are good value for money but I now have a set of Dianese gloves which are in a different league in terms of quality, and my Daytona boots are again a lot better than the HG ones I had previously.
I wouldn't buy leathers there again - my tricky 2 piece suit failed in a couple of places in an off at Lydden a few years back - my knee went through the stretch panel (poor fit?) and the wrist zip failed exposing a lot of flesh in a low speed tumble.

I have a HG CRUISE GTX which comes in at £280.
Waterproof and good quality for the price .. apart from the front lap pockets leak a bit.
Storm collar is handy in this weather.
I think HG textile jackets have got better over the past couple of years ... my last one was good but this is an improvement.
