Daft parts prices

Post by scotty »

I don't know if one should laugh or cry at the cost of biking these days. I was speaking to a SP1 owner over the holiday weekend. His Honda dealer quoted £90 for front caliper seals !! That's the seals only without the pistons. A new front disc is £300 and he was £16 for 8 little plastic nuts for holding on a fairing panel. Crazy.

About 2 weeks ago I was out for a run in the country and noticed a Hyandai motorcar parked next to a house with a for sale sign in it's window. As I was having a look the owner came out and popped the bonnet to reveal an immaculate engine bay. The car was in very good condition, no rust and started first turn of the key. It had done about 47K was fully taxed and Mot'd. The asking price was £500.

It's when you realise that you could buy one and a half front disc's of an SP1 or a perfectly good motorcar that you realise that something is far wrong with the cost of bike bits. High performance motorbikes may be fun but value for money they ain't.
