Boxertrix offer: full-floating discs for BMW

In my search for full floating discs for my R1100S and with the help of the boxertrix community, I came across a company called Alth. This Italian company makes high-end full floating discs. And besides the normal offerings for your typical Japanese crotch rockets, they also have a line for BMW.

This should be in the for-sale section, but I feel this could be interesting for more than those that roam the vultures den. So maybe it can stay here for a while.

The carriers are specifically designed for each application, so rotors for different brands and models look different. they also look like a piece of art.

But, looks are nice, but they also need to perform. Alth set out to create rotors that combine the performance of cast iron and the consistancy of stainless steel. From the few sources I have been able to find on these rotors, they seem to have achieved this.

These rotors come in two shapes: a normal round version, and a star or wave version.

The carrier can be either black or gold anodized.

All this beauty comes at a price though, and it's not cheap. Retail price of the model I am offering here is about 275 euros per disc.

But I think I can offer a much nicer deal for the boxertrix community. Read on.

I can offer these for 230 euro incl. VAT per disc, but excluding shipping. That's approximately UK£173.50 for the English. Payment will be due before I put the order in to the factory, as I cannot afford to spring the money for you. As I mention below, this is not a business but I private offer.

NOTE 1: For the R1100S, these discs will ONLY fit the models with the 320mm EVO brakes, so from 2002 on. No floating discs are offered for the smaller 305mm 1998-2001 non-EVO models.
NOTE 2: For some models, an ABS option is listed. For the R1100S, it is NOT. If you are sure the ABS ring is identical to some of the ABS models listed and want to order for ABS, that is at your own risk!
NOTE 3: The price mention is for non-ABS. There is a small surcharge for the ABS option, how much I do not know at this point.
NOTE 4: No returns, other than for manufacturing defects. I am doing this as a private person, not a business. You order them, you take them. I am not making a lot of money on these, just enough to cover the work and expenses. I cannot afford to give you a refund get stuck with a set because you changed your mind.

This is interesting

If the entire assembly is €230,

How much is a "refill" ? (Disc/bobbins only) for when the disc wears out?

I have no idea.

I am just getting into this myself. I have not seen anything mentioned on "refills". They should not wear very fast, as they are specially hardened throughout, not just a surface treatment like most.

Of course, the big advantage is not being able to replace just the brake surface, but the thermal de-coupling of the rotor and carrier so the discs don't warp. (winger can correct me here

)

You would have thought with all that design that they would have put the ABS mounting points to the outside of the ABS ring and just tapped a hole into the carrier assembly. It would have looked neater and been easier to clean the wheel.

And think of the weight saving!

I have gone through all the documentation that I could find and spelled out the pricelists and came up zilch for "refills". I'd assume 'no' to that question for now.

Well, I had a chance to get out for the first time this year and try my new shiney brakes. And boy, do they brake.

These discs perform so much better than both stock and Braking rotors, it's scarey. Even though discs and pads are not yet properly bedded in yet, I already had the rear off the ground with only 2 fingers at the lever and a gentle squeeze.

Yes, they are expensive, but to me they were well worth the money. Probably the best way to describe it is I now have brakes that require similar force as the servo brakes for similar stopping power. It's a bit unnerving at the moment really with all the crap on these wet roads, given that I am not really used to them yet.

Me happy.
