cutting the heated grips cable

i am soon to fit comfort bars and bar backs and while i know all about every other aspect of the job i am a little concerned about the heated grips cable. it really doesn't look like they will make the stretch, so i need to know if this is something that can be cut and extended or is that not recommended. i would have thought that as long as the battery is disconnected then there wouldn't be a problem but someone here might know different.

any help gratefully received

Steve

I would say they can be cut and extened no problem. Personally, I would lift the tank and see how much slack there is in the cable. From memory, I think a few extra inches are cable tied to the frame.

fyi - the wires end up on a mini-spade connector block.

Cheers

Heated grip cables are the same length for an S or RT or GS. They are the same grips for all models.

You'll find the extra length cable tied under the tank/frame

after lifting the tank I realised I could cut the zip tie and cut it from the headstock! took the sidepanel off though.

Hi f90x,
I fitted bar backs last year and as suggested theres no need to cut any cables. Just remove the panals and you'll find plenty slack tucked away. Just snip the cable ties and bob's the preverbial.
I also found it better to tuck the cables behind the fork tubes. Made the job much neater and did'nt stress any wireing.

Cheers, Cobbster.
