How F--ked Off Am I ????

Well here we are - I am nearly42 years of age, I run a successful business, I have a nice house, lots of toys, 3 dogs, a beautiful wife & a fantastic intelligent daughter with 12 Gcse's who is nearly 17 years of age, has her own horse & is generally a very well balanced individual - so why am I so F--ked off I hear you say.....?
Well you see it's car insurance time, & it's my job to provide seing as she (Paige) is at sixth form studying for her A levels - I have bought her what I consider to be a sensible car - a Volkswagen Golf Mk2 1600 Gtd 5 door. So I traul through the various price comparison websites & get some online quotes for Comprehensive cover on said car & consistantly Quinn Direct are the cheapest at: £1100 ..

So I speak to my broker who I get my company insurance & road risk policy from & he says that's a great price I wouls take that if I were you, unless it's with...... you guessed it......Quinn Direct---- blah, blah, blah. So I enquire how much it's going to be to add her on to my company policy - he says about £700 & to be honest you're better off doing that, because she will get 'proper' comprehensive cover --- so do I or don't I ? £1100 with a suspect company from Northern Ireland (allegedly) or £700 on my company policy - with the risk of loosing my no claims bonus in the event of an accident.....
Wo is me.
Regards from the chubby one - Neil.

Two things I can contribute here.....although I don't know if they'll really be welcome....
First off.... anything with a 1600 engine probably isn't the most sensible first car for a 17 year old - or at least not in the eyes of an insurance company - I know this ones a diesel, but is it not viewed as a pretty nippy diesel????
Secondly.....£1100 is a pretty decent price- even if it is with Quinns....... I'm gonna hazard that this is possibly more than the car is worth- or at least not far off the worth of the car, and therefore the main aim would be that she doesn't need her insurance within the first 12 mths and if she does then Quinns will have a legal obigation to provide a decent level of cover.
To put this all into perspective I was paying almost this amount on a Clio Diesel just under 10 years ago - allegedly I live in a "good postcode" area, and my brother paid slightly more than this on a Mini Cooper about 7 years ago.

Get her a scooter.Cheap to run and insure. You can borrow it yourself aswell. She can get a car when she gets a job and you aint going to have to fork out the dosh to buy/run it.It will also be a good lesson in how much money running a vehicle costs.
Does she really need a car?

What Gus said makes perfect sense to me, That or pay may'be £1500_00+ for insurance with a reputable company.

Well thanks chaps for your opinions, I wanted fully comprehensive insurance just for the peace of mind of the extra benefits that brings over third party. No she doesn't need a car now, but my wife & I plan on buying a property in France within the next 2 years & I wouls feel happier if Paige had her licence & own car for then. I guess I'll probably put her on my company insurance whilst she's learning, & then when she has passed her test get her own insurance with a reputable company.
I'm not a tight git - far from it really, it's just that I haven't insured a vehicle seperatly for quite a number of years & seem to have lost track of the cost of it.

And they wonder why many teenagers don't bother with insurance.

Nothing really dodgy about him and personally worth about £3 billion.

Well established with car insurance and fairly new to the market in the south for bike insurance and allowing lots of "youngsters" to ride fireblades and the like ,although what will happen at renewals time is anyones guess.
The car quotes seem similar to this part of the world too.

Wellcome to the real world. My almost eighteen year old daughter has been doing similar research located in retirementland, Kent. I suggested a couple of sensible cars for her. She has found the best price on a three door Fiesta is £1020 p.a.
£1100 for a 1600 VW is a steal I'd say.

We've insured our son's 03 1.0 litre Corsa with Quinns for £900 TP F & T for over a year now. Just for your comparison. Can't comment on company as he's made no claims so far!! Good luck
