if your bikes 'R reg' it's an ex press bike. (or does he mean Express) So says the comment on another thread.

It is, I think, unusual for an S to be registered so early (R165RRD) does anyone know if the comment about it being a press bike is true. Looking at the service book it had its pre delivery inspection on 13/06/98 carried out by BMW (GB) Ltd Dealer 80823 it had its first inspection at 621 miles on 24/06/98 again at BMW(GB) dealer 80823.

Its next service was at 4956 miles on 28/04/2001 by M & H Autos Portsmouth.
Where was it between 1998 and 2001? :?:
Sitting in a warehouse? :?:

I could not find anything about BMW (GB) dealer 80823 on the net, is it code for BMW itself and therefore could this have been a Pre-launch press bike as suggested :?: Have not found any road test reports from that era featuring my bike.

Any info would be intriguing

He has been known to p1ss people off (sorry mate  ) but he's usually right.

Not peed off just interested in the history. I bought it this year with just 13,090 miles on the clock and the service book and MOT's all add up to that being the correct milage.

The S wasn't available to the public till september 1998 and they were S reg, hence why anything with an R plate was one of BM press fleet,Boxerchic has one as well,i presume she's still got it,although last time we saw them was in Prague 18 months ago,she was on it then.

Knowing how manafactures operate,i'd say one of maybe half a dozen tops,so a rare old bird.

Not done the mileage I would expect from a press bike, (unless it has been right round the clock with no services  )

I'm sure I have some mags (not that kind  ) from around then with the tests of the 1100s - I'll have a look for the reg.

Press bikes don't do big mileage, unless it's a long termer and even then with the exception of Chad(Adam Child) at MCN who rides 95miles a day each way 12 months of the year,he averages 25,000 a year, but most press bikes get sold off with less than 3,000 miles.

I've just had a look through some old stuff, your bike was tested by both MCN and ride magazine,so it'll be well run in,with some pictures of it doing a front wheel stoppy,a very nice wheelie and and excellent donut in a carpark

I'll have a look - might take a wee while...................

They also wrapped one up in brown paper, as though that would make it more beautiful  (that was a yellow one too)

IIRC, Performance Bikes' 'Ugly' test, against two other bikes, but I can't remember what. Firestorm and something? I'll have it somewhere in the pile.

I have a 98 'Bike' Magazine with a test in it ... will dig it out.

Think it was Martin Child testing it - so hope it wasn't yours.

Glad to see you hard at work Graeme

Close but no Cigar. Mine is R165RRD NOT R156RRD but this would seem to confirm that mine was a Press Bike as they must have been registered on the same day.

Now where's the link to the picture gone?

Beat me to it

Bike tested the R1100s in September 1998. Just dug out my copy and the reg was R156 RRD not R165 RRD
