Mirror Glass

Post by andrew s »

I have just noticed coming back from France that the mirror lens on my left mirror is loose and rattles giving me a blurred picture. Has anybody else suffered this. And if so what was the cure.

I was thinking of using a small amount of clear sealant to fix it back in.

Yep, my does this as well. I gonna try and get a new one through the warranty. Mind you the dealer will probably put it down to me modifying the exhaust

Spooky, the same thing happened to me this weekend.
Both are loose.
I thought about trying to pry out the glass & as you say, silicone back in but thought it would break.
In the end I just dabed a couple of blobs.
Not ideal but it works.

Heading to Perthsire in June, can't wait!

Solution that worked for me:

Get a tube of dark gasket sealant, I had Loctite in stock but any black silicon product would probably work.

Run a tiny bead around the mirror flange.

Bob's yer uncle.

Thanks for all your suggestions, think mine happened due to taking the baffles out of my Staintune exhaust whilst in France (bit more vibration)

Mike,

You pass through my neck of the woods in Fife on the way up to Perthshire. Unfortunitly I am in Florida from 9th till 28th. If you are up before or after that then give me a shout.

Andrew,
I am crossing the border 12 June returning 19th or 21st.

Rob, I asked my uncle Bob & he said you are right about the black stuf.

If you don't care what it looks like.....an old piece of used chewing gum dries solid and stops all vibing.
Or use gasket cement.Both work!

..You could always take the bike in for a set of replacment forks (due to the crap paint finish) and then when they clean the thing after finishing work the paint falls of the mirrors you can claim for a new pair under warranty. It happened to me last week. 10 months old 16500 miles and its falling apart around me!!!

It may even get you to France and back with the reassurance of all those new parts. Did they comment on you unjustified high mileage for such a young machine? They thought you'd only bought it for gentle sunday morning breakfast trundles

As an aside with teh mirrors, before I delve in to fix it with hammer and screwdriver...

my O/S mirror stalk is loose at the base - I can take the stalk off and screw in the bolt all the way tight but when I get the stalk on (careful ladies) it doesn't seem to want to tighten all the way up on the front bolt - it's like it won't take up the slack -

confused
