Heated grips (again!!)

Unlike many others it seems mine have caused no trouble so far (goes and hugs a tree  ) but I've just noticed that the rubber on the LH grip has split, exposing the element.

I've not seen this mentioned as a problem before so I wonder if one of you guys who've done a replacement can answer me a couple of questions

Is it possible just to replace the grip and can it be replaced by any grip or does it have to be BMW parts? I quite fancy some coloured grips while I'm at it.

If the grip alone can be replaced how delicate is the wiring underneath and do I need to take any special care?

If it comes down to having a complete new heated grip I might just splodge some silicone into the split and make do until it gives up completely

Thanks guys

Nick

Skiddy,

Take a look at the last post in this thread from POB, who has had the same problem as you with splitting grips.

cheers,

Thanks Paul

Superglue seems a bit drastic  But may well resort to silicon sealant which should do the same job hopefully.

Hi Nick,
the grips on my bike suffered the same fate as the ones on your bike. I got new grips (non BMW) from Motorworks, however, they did advise that I should buy 2 pairs  Motorworks recommended fitting the throttle grip on both sides as the element has quite a dimension.
The grips were a doddle to fit and didn't damage the heating element.
I've had them on the bike for 6-months now and am well chuffed with them.

Does anyone have a requirement for 2 LH grips?

Good luck,
Rob.

Thanks Rob

Just the sort of reply I was after. I'll be calling Motorworks in the new year.
