R1200s OHLINS front and rear

Post by overipe&keen »

Thanks to help from PB and others I plumped for these off of Ebay. :nike:

Question is can I fit them myself (I'm relatively practical)? :dontknow:

2nd question is how? Any experience out there you can pass on & do I need stands front and rear?
:error:

It is a straight forward job if you have an abba stand or similar, I used a bottle jack under the sump to hold the motor in place while changing the front shock (on my 1100s, but the principle is the same). The front and rear stands will be of no use for this job :(
you really need to support the bike like a centre stand would, or you could suspend the bike from the rear whilst the front is on the stand.

I have a large hydraulic stand that works well on the 1100. May be worth trying with the 1200 if you've nothing else. Machine Mart one like this. I'm up in Stockton if you wish to borrow it.

Thanks for the help, advice and offer of equipment guys. :salute: I've today tracked down a suspension expert here in York that will fit and set up both units for around £80.
I will probably go down this route as I can be a bit hasty and have visions of a bike falling on me, (don;t laugh but I had a Buell do this to me, my fault of course!) :withstupid:

I've one very much the same as those - works a treat and it very sturdy. :)

How VERY dare you!!!

It's a 1975 MZ TS250 ;)

Although you saying it's a Suzuki isn't that far off - Suzuki did after all steal MZ's 2-stroke engine secrets in the early 60's ;)
