Hello, hope you aren't freezing your bullocks off like here in New England. We got socked with 10" of the white stuff Thursday. Nearly shut the state down.
Seeking opinions on TB balancing products. Which do you prefer? Morgan Carbtune, Twinmax? I've still got my trusty mercury filled Carbstix I use on my airhead.

Nice weather! Had a morgan carbtune, but always found it difficult to use - the stainless rods seemed to stick in the glass tubes a bit. I always had to swap the rubber hoses back and forth to allow for this. Bought a Carbmate - which I think is more akin to a twinmax - that's great - there's no ambiguity. Plus it takes nowhere near as long as the carbtune, which is handy on a air-cooled motor. I bought a carbmate because no-one else seemed to have tried it - just don't take it apart (it's got the innards of a mcdonalds toy) - you'll wonder where all your dollars went!

For what it's worth, just got a twinmax and used it quite easily... which for me is saying something. I'll probably compare it to r550s carbmate at some point because were not a million miles away from each other. My guess is however that they're probably a similar piece of kit and just depends whether you prefer looking at coloured led's or analogue needles. The twinmax does have a 9v battery in the back, where as I understand the carbmate runs off the bikes power... but I could be talking complete twaddle here having never actually seen one?

10" of the white stuff .... haven't seen that much since '81 ish , anyway ,I've only ever used the morgan carbtune and it does the job for me, but if you do a search the Twinmax seems to come out tops...........

Only ever used the Carbtune, does the job for me.

I used the Morgan on my GS1000 for years and initially on the Boxer. Rods used to stick ocasionally but soon loosened up and always gave a good reading.
I now have a Twinmax, unbelievably sensitive. I was adjusting the zero scale with the hoses loose, so full on the sensitivity knob, zeroed the dial, the wind blowing about force 4 that day was affecting the reading! Across the open ends of the hoses which have 4 or 5 mm bores!

You carry on using your mercury gauges - had mine now for 24 years, used professionally for all that time.

tried a twinmax and had to put the mercury gauges on to get it absolutly right.
Sold the twinmax.

I still use some 17 year old mercury Carbtunes. Much better resolution than the new rodded Carbtunes.
