I'm considering fitting some 12v accessory sockets up front on my 1100s, probably on one of the indicator pods. Has anyone fitted cigarette type sockets or is the prefered choice the smaller DIN type? I see that Nippy Normans do kits for around £10 including wires and in line fuse that go straight to the battery but I'd rather hard wire it in. On my old GS1150 it was a fairly simple matter of running the wires to the rear of the accessory socket that was mounted as standard close to the left footpeg. The 1100s doesnt seem to have one fitted, so whats the best place? Not bothered whether they're permanent live or not really.

The accesory socket was an extra on the 1100S and was also located on the LHS below the seat. The standard wiring for the socket plugs into the wiring harness under the seat on the RHS close to the puncture repair kit holder.
You can I belive just buy the connector wire (try BMW / motorworks) although probably not long enough to go all the way to the indicator pods
it will give you the other half of the connector which are very obsure (someone once mentioned that they are a John Deer connector).

I have fitted a BMW powerlet socket to the left pod for my GPS take off. The only problem I encountered was the normal plug for this socket... when in situ collides with the handlebars. You have to use a 90 plug that lies virtually flush with the indicator pod..... I think I have some photos... if not I will post later.

The wiring.... straight from the batter terminals with inline fuse (2 amp for GPS unit)




Make sure you get the waterproof covered socket... obviously.

thanks for the replies. Walked down to my local tractor dealers the other day and boght a socket which seems good quality! Hadn't really considered the problems of the bars fouling the connectors, anybody use different mounting options and if so what. Steve, I'll take the seat off tomorrow and have a furtle round for the connector you mention.
