I have just bought myself a 2005 BCR-2 and was told that only limited numbers were produced which may make them somewhat exclusive! Is this true?

It's true.
Nobody likes that colour scheme

Hang on a minute, does that mean the R1200S 'somewhat exclusive' too??

Welcome Maxl,
I'll go out on a limb here and say that the red white and blue colour scheme is definately my favourite on the R1100S. So much so, I might just replicate it on my F800S.

Yes - limited numbers were produced. That limit was set by the number of people who the various BMW dealer networks around the world thought would buy one.
The only limited edition BCR was the original Randy Mamola blue/white single spark version. 1000 units - 250 for Germany, 135 for the UK and the rest - who knows where?
Once they had established that the BCR would sell, they then put them into normal production and they made as many as the various country's markets were prepared to order. By then they had moved on to the twin spark engine, making the later twin spark Randy Mamola not strictly a 'Limited Edition'.

I can quote what A Jeffries told me only 70 red white and blue for UK.
I think for certain at most 69 left as i bolloxed mine for good at Redgate Donnington track attack last saturday

Ohh... all right then. Donnington park, GP circuit, mild, calm bloody fantastic day for it. Put on a new Dunlop Gp rear was offered a front but declined, thought I could squeeze a bit more out of the front pilot sport. Got the rear bedded in nicely then I was on it.. or so i thought. Only beemer on trackday I was in Intermediate group, Mistake, i should have gone with the fast lads there was only three of them and they were good so i would have had as much space as i wanted on that sublime track. I digress, so i notice the chequered flag on the pit lane straight also a red and white R1 with rider coming up early for redgate i can have him round here thinks me dont think i even applied any braking just gave it a big handful and dropped it down a gear,( planned to go round the outside of him) tipped it in thought that it was a bit fast but never ever thought i would not get round, oh it is a bit fast, bit more lean, bit more lean, cylinder head not glissing along but scraping , Im on him.... you know what happened next? course you do, well I never passed the R1 but a low side then more or less instantly in to the gravel at 70-80ish mph .. gravel,sky,gravel,sky,gravel,gravel well Im alright still, I think to me but i doubt Herman will survive this one. So there you have it slight fracture on left outside ankle Pot for 6 more days and then back to work. Interestingly amusing was the marshalls reaction to herman starting first time and getting out of gravel by its own power!! it was not rideable as the top subframe mounting lugs had sheared off, headlight smashed, rhs main fairing cracked around indicator pod, (indicator pod and cyl headguard were already mashed from mallory) rear idicators hanging, screen and small front fairing a nice gravel frosted finish, Front brake lever, resovoir,/switch Knackered but still working! no visible engine damage.. It still may be restorable.. fingers crossed

Hi Boxerscott,
Don't despair, these old tanks can absorb quite a bit: I low sided my 1100S going into Duffus Dip @ Knockhill; banged it down a gear too many, rear-end locked-up---- next thing I know is I'm shifting ar*e cheeks as my left was starting to get a tad hot
Anyway, top subframe mounting lugs sheared clean off, fairing mount was twisted, steering lock sheared-off, indicator pod & mirror were left in the gravel trap, thankfully, no engine damage. (cylinder head protectors did there job.)
After a bit of research, I discovered that nearly all the Boxer-Cup racing bikes were modified ie. original top subframe lugs chopped-off and new 'beefier' ones welded on. The fairing mount is designed to absorb impact, so hopefully your bike isn't as badly damaged as it first seems.
Hope you get it fixed-up without too much aggro.

Thanks for moral support rob I hope youre right. I would be interested for any of your contacts regarding the welding on of more substantial top subframe mounts. Still not sure about full restoration (in a cosmetic sense)but i am considering it just as a track bike so any one with any info regarding cheap plastics ... please. Chris
