Pilot Sports - lifetimes

so - how long should these last??

I'm in the dilemma where I reckon I'll have about 2,000 miles on my current pair before my last chance to change them before France (where I expect to do in excess of 2.5K).

They're currently looking pretty healthy - not new by any means, but the last 1300 miles have all been fairly gentle "running in" miles.

So - do I chuck a pair of partly worn tyres or stick with them and run the risk of wearing them out abroad?? (and in so doing: piss off my host and his other guests).

:?

I understand they sell motorcycle tyres in France these days - why worry?

Où est le magasin le plus proche que les ventes moto bande mon vieux mucker?

No - my French ain't good at all & last year when Air France lost Mrs. Lime's bag I was despatched to buy ladies underwear in the nearest, small, market town. The only outlet was a 'specialist' lingerie shop. Only in France eh? It's an education, I can tell you. Large English man on motorbike (alone) asking where he can buy ladies underwear!

2.5k?? I've heard of taking a wide line on corners but... ;)

Why don't you get the hoops changed but keep take these ones home when removed? They can always be used in the future.

Ricey - When you pick up a pair of hoops get my a pair too will ya. They probably half the price they are here.

Harry - the whole point about buying hoops that will last the distance is not to annoy the host and other guests by having to sidetrack on the last day via a tyre shop and hang around for an hour.

:)

so - no-one's worn out a pair of Pilot Sports then??

not yet, but I've only got a couple of thousand left on them.

Bailey keeps on about Pilot Roads. They should wear better than the Sports. Change them over to those and keep the Sports for later, or sell them to someone?

I'll be keeping em for later, they are beginning to wear down more than they were now I'm using the bike "properly" ;)

Run the Sports out and put on Pilot Roads in France.
I ran into the same problem last year in Lewiston/Clarkston on the way to Yellowstone with ~6,000km on the Sports. Next dealer 2 days away and tread for one day ~800k left. Tyre seemed to start disappearing in the hot sport riding in Washington / Wyoming. Changed to a Road rear and later a road front. Very happy.

RB be warned once the Sport wears down to the tyre indicators it deteriorates rapidly, I have just replaced my rear after 5000Km and it was down to the canvas in several places. Hot weather certainly exacerbates wear.

Cheers
