Time to replace both tyres on my bike. Sportec M1 on it now with about month or so to go. Any suggestions for a good replacement. Don't worry about long life but good performance wanted. Thanks. Robin.

Robin, to be brutally honest no one makes a bad tyre these days...you could try the following:

Metz Sportec M3
Michelin Pilot Power
Avon Viper Sport
Pirelli Diablo
Dunlop Qualifier
Conti Sport Attacks

Remember that where tyres are concerned one man's meat is another's poison.

I had M3's on my BCR and found them great, but actually preferred Conti Road Attacks. Just as much grip and steered more neutrally.

Don't forget the Pilot Roads 2ct but as Gromit has said one mans meat is anothers poison. Must have nearly 2500 miles on the 2cts now with the best part of 650 miles in seriously wet conditions last week over in France and up to now I'm quite happy with them.

I'm only on my first beemer robin(1100s) and i can't fault my bridgestone 014's but theres plenty out there!

I had M1's on the bike when i bought it , just fittted M3's and it feels great, lots of feedback. It rolls nicely into corners too but i suppose any new tyre would do.

Sharples tyres in Bolton, £149 for the pair loose. Cost me £10 for fitting and balance locally

I've got Bridgestone 019's on my '04 BoxerCup bike (purchased it with them recently). They will need changing in a few weeks so I'd be interested to learn what people feel would be better for general road use.

Also I'll be looking into getting a paddock stand so I can lift the front and rear to take the wheels off at home myself and take them in for tyre fitting - does anyone know who makes a decent paddock stand for the R1100S (new or used)

I've got Pilot Road 2s newly fitted to my R-1, and the grip seems good so far.

I think I'll give them a whirl on the BoxerCup also, and either go for them or the Avon Storms on the 1200Adv (if I go offroad on the GS - it won't be intentional )

I've had Road attacks for years and would highly reccomend them.
Few too many burnouts has killed my back so i'm going to try a sport attack.

Anyone had these? Differences between Road and Sport??

I put Avon storm/azaro combination on my 1200GS before the trip to spain 1800 miles fantastic grip actually makes the bike steer like a sports bike.

Seem to be wearing really well.

Thanks for that info - I assume you mean that you have an old Azaro on the front and a new Storm on the rear?

I just had a look at the Avon website and see that the Storm is the replacement for the Azaro.

Storms it is then

I was used to very grippy Avons on my previous bike, which lasted only about 2.5 - 3k.
The R1100S came with a pair of new Bridgestone 010, which I thought were really good. Put on a new rear at 4k.
Last year, my local bike shop was promoting the Conti Road Attacks at £160 fitted to loose wheels. In favour of supporting my local shop, I tried them. Very good grip, even in Biblical downpours. They have never stepped out where previous ones did. I was warned to let them warm up properly, but have never found that an issue. So far, 4k and still going. I'd say about 50-60% worn. Cant now read the logo. This includes two, 1000 + mile outings. I havent touched the footrest down yet though.
