Changing the Torque arm

I notice that there is available adjustable rear torque arms on the market, what the effect of fitting one on a standard 1100S and is there any do and dont's.

Fitting one will speed up the steering and straighten the path of the shaft and joints, sometimes reducing vibration. It can also make the centre stand foul on the torque arm - I ended up removing my centre stand.
Adjustable arms aren't really necessary - just fit a GS one which is 20mm shorter than the S item.

winger you are spot on there could not have said it better myself.I've run a Verholen arm for years,you don't have the take it or leave with a GS arm,gives you the chance to try different options,also looks shit loads better than the pressed tin peace of crap that BM flog.

Its a very worthwhile mod. There's not really dispute on that. Its just a question of how much wedge you want to throw at it and whether you're a good enough rider to tell the difference between the setting options the adjustable arm gives you.
I'm not, and have been happy with the budget option. second hand GS arm from Motorworks plus spray can from halfords.
BUT dont forget that shortening the arm jacks the bike up and you will need a longer side stand. Also the centre stand, if you use it, becomes 'dicey' as rear wheel will also be touching the floor. I need a pile of 3 carpet tiles to use the centre stand safely in the garage.

If you have a llmberger hugger fitted remember to remove the plastic spring protector thingy, or it will wear a smile shaped hole through the carbon in quick time! Ask me how I know

But it's probably worth pointing out here for the sake of completeness that this problem does not affect all bikes (my 2002 model is happily wearing an Ilmberger hugger and the original shock 'guard' and the two have never met).Harry wrote:Phil let's not go there (again) as it this been widely covered many times on this forum....
Have a google for the Moto Technique torque arm. Lovely milled ally and not as pimpy / overengineered as the verholen one.

The one that I have is the same length as the GS arm (and possibly the BCR??) It is certainly shorter than my R11 "sport" one....
