flashing

Button for flashing high beam is proving a little troublesome. Switching it up to high beam no problem only when depressing lower half of rocker to "flash" it decides to flash sometimes or come on after 5 seconds.
Is it possible its all grunged up and needs a clean to the intrnal contacts and if so is that a do at home job

I get this problem on my Fazer 600. Sometimes I strip the switch but when I am lazy I just spray the inards with WD40 which seems to do the trick.
Not had problems on my S though.
