I just completed the 24000 mile service on my R1100s. Checked the valve clearence and end rocker float. The left side cylinder was spot on the right was a bit tight and needed adjustment. Balanced the throttle bodies which was a pleasing experience and easy to do. I stuck the posh mobil oil in gearbox and final drive. New brake fluid, spark plugs, air/oil filter and oil.

All in all cost not very much, 10 times cheaper than the dealer who would probably have left the valve clearence as they were.

I loved the way access to the valves is so easy. No body panels to remove. The whole bike was easy to work on and eveb the dreaded 14mm gearbox drain plug simply took the 14mm allen key I had

the bike runs great, hardly vibey at all. well chuffed.

Two things I did'nt do was replace the fuel filter as it looked a pain in the arse and i'm sure the bike will run fine as is. Also did'nt change the clutch fluid as it was time to go to the pub. Again I'm sure the bike will be just fine.

Too bad you do have to remove all the tupperware just to replace the airfilter.

yea, that was a tad frustrating. I was half tempted to swap the fuel filter at that point but a 2 minute inspection and i thought, na, i'm sure it'l be fine

I would do the fuel filter. In my experience, they are past their best at 30K miles (I had 2 block up on me!).
The clutch fuid ....well I never changed that ever .....not in 125'000 miles.

I've just done exactly the same with mine a weekend or two ago. Well, not quite the same since I did do the fuel filter. It wasn't as bad as it seems to be made out on here, to be honest. Maybe I got lucky? I did take advice from previous threads and marked up hoses to get them to match on reassembly, marked the tank and assembly for alignment and swapped the filter over one hose at a time too!

Took another week after servicing it to get out on it again - flippin' weather!
