Hey Guy's
I have been told that because my helmet is 5 years old that it needs replacing as they go brittle and are no good in a smash.
What do you think. How offern do you change your lids.

I think that at 5 years you are a little too young to be smashing your helmet.

This is what happens after too many years reading Viz. Sorry Dude, couldn't resist it. I did try, honest injun.

Gaffaw...schnorff... :D

I tend to (woah there) change my helmet every couple of years or so. It gets washed every 3 or 4 months (stop it...stop it!!).

It's recommended every 5 years - whether used or not.

As for price, brand, style - that's up to you.

I like my head to remain head shaped and functional so pay around £400 to £500 a shot. Bit of a shitter really coz my Shoei's getting on and I'd rather throw money down the drain on my bike.

Daren't tell the other 'alf the £'s to date!!!

I think the old polycarbonate lids use to degrade over time but you should be ok with composite (fibreglass/kevlar etc). I believe Arai have some really old helmets which they still test every year. Arai's are actually guaranteed for 5 years so they're not suddenly going to go brittle after the guarantee period. The fit of the helmet may get a bit loose over time as the padding gets a bit compressed though and there's nothing like getting a new one. :D
