What does the team think to the 20-50 oil sold at sada for the princely sum of £1.48p per quart.???????
Is there any arm in using this oil in the oilhead??????????

I'd use it in an old hack....read....my ntv's.....but the S deserves either a very good mineral oil (BMW power oil is excellent) or a decent semi-synth for cars (as the BMW has a dry clutch and doesn't rev very high).

If you have a cheap bike that you can afford to throw away then use cheap oil and cheap tyres. I use fully synthetic on ours.

Hi Madman,
This has been discussed many times on this forum... but I understand fully synthetic oil in the s and particularly in my F650's is not good for them. In fact I topped up my F650 with synthetic after I assumed the dealer had not done it correctly. The dealer made me bring it back in and change the oil back to a good mineral.
Intersting eh? (BTW.. he did underfill it)

I cannot understand how it could not be good for them. To change a lubricant for one which has a wider viscosity range and does not break down under high temperature, and then expect it to do some damage does not make sense. I can understand that to use mineral and change it regularly might be more cost effective, but fully synthetic does not harm BMW cars which come with it in from new.
Many old designs of lorry engine use synthetic and change it after 50,000 miles without damage. Perhaps the dealer thinks that the bearing surfaces will know that they have been programed to use mineral. It could always be that if BMW said use synthetic, it would not need to be changed for over 12000 miles, and the dealers may lose some trade.
Your dealer certainly made the profit from and extra oil change!

Hi Madman,
I tend to agree with you but many on this forum do not.
I did not pay the dealer for this... he simply called me a plonka(in the nicest possible way of course) and then did the oilchange again. It may be because he seriously underfilled the bike.... In the early days of the 650 it was very hard to read the bendy dip stick.
