Remus or Lazer?

I know the Lazer is the "official" BCR pipe, but I have always found the Remus stuff to be fantastically well-made. Not looking to chip the bike, juust release some more power and get the Burble and Growl back. Actually, a bit more useable torque would be great. Which one sounds better? And which is more well-regarded (assuming I can't stretch to a Staintune, which seems to be the favourite)...
PS > Are they both an at-home-with-spanner fitting job?
Thanks.

Remus is excellent, as long as you go for the one with the 'centre box' muffler version. The straight-through 2-2 system is...to put it mildly...shit.
I've had both versions - the 2-2 knocked so much power off it was untrue. The pre-muffler one works very well however.
Personally I'd go for the Laser - it's admittedly not quite as nicely made as the Remus but it fits ok, does what it says on the tin in terms of letting the motor breather a bit better and sounds good too.
POB - if you're around London/Home Counties etc I'll give you a hand fitting it if like.

Cheers Gromit! I am at the very beginning of pimping my ride, as they say. I have seen the y-piece somewhere for 155GBP - perhaps new from Motorworks? I haven't seen the silencers seperately...
Why is it so lame to have no pre-muffler? I did consider just using the Y-piece with the stock end-cans. I suspect you would get more power and noise (and the cat is eliminated) without too much hassle.
?? Hmmm. Am also considering an engine + bodywork stanless bolt kit and a belly pan. Tell me, does the SS variant (steering damper, sports shocks and 5.5 rear wheel) come with the sports torque arm already?
Thanks dude. I can already tell that me + 11S is going to be a beautiful relationship. A bit more hard-edged than my RS, which I sold today.

POB - using a y-piece with the std cans is a very effective way of improving the engine's breathing. Top vfm too. Adding noisier cans just gives more/better sound. Do one at a time and see what you think. Just junking the cat is a
de riguer modification.
Shock lengths?
Here goes...
Standard S has always had 'standard' length shocks, long torque arm (T/A).
First Sport model (up to 2000-ish) had longer shocks (f&r), long T/A.
2nd Sport model (I've got the date it changed written down somewhere) had shorter rear shock, same long front shock as 1st Sport but short T/A.
Mamola BCR has lengths as per 2nd Sport above.
Later BCR (ie r/w/b one like mine) has extra long rear shock, long front shock and short T/A. Plus GS fork sliders making the bike even taller - seat height is higher than an 1150GS.
If that doesn't confuse you you're doing ok.

I have just bought an '02 SS. Could I use the longer (early Sport) shock to jack the rear up to almost-current BCR levels?
Obviously will need to give it a few more miles before I know if this is necessary. The bike I bought had new f and r shocks under warranty after 23 months (so that would be late '04) and it seems a shame to junk the rear one so soon. Looks like forst job is to get the y-piece then.
Do you have a good place to work on the bikes mr Gromit? And is it beer money for a middle exhaust section replacement? Do the bikes pass MOT emissions with the cat removed?
Cheers for help and advice so far. I didn't know what I was getting into!
PS > Anyone know who has the red S with the white "GT Stripe" down it?

Now there's a good question!

Considering the y-front option myself but may be wise to wait until after the next MOT before 'gettin the spanars art'.

POB - I'm based at RAF Uxbridge in Middlesex and have a cosy garage in which to do any spannering/infliction of brute force and ignorance.
Let me know when you get your y-piece and give me a shout. Ony real problem will be getting the header pipes to catbox bolts out. They WILL be seized and yes you'll need some new ones before doing the cat-eliminating job. I just get the Dremmel out and cut the heads off the old ones - saves hassle. Means the cat is then junk but they're worthless anyway.
MoT? Good q - not sure on that one but I'd definitely lean towards the 'I doubt it'd matter' side of things. I've used the same bike MoT place for the last 5 years or so and have a good relationship with them. Never been a problem.

Like Nu2 said - wait until the MoT's due - get that out the way, then get your pipe.
A newer spec, long shock will work fine. It does make the bike bloody tall though - I'm 6'3" and can
just flat-foot it.
Better still get yourself a Wilbers or such like with adjustable length.
Then it'll be a Lennie's induct...SJ Filter....Power Commander....you'll be susprised how much you can do with these beasties. Do a search on this site for info - plenty about - and the folks on here are a great bunch of guys/girls. Couple of dodgy characters admittedly but on the whole.....

It'll pass the MOT fine with the Y piece and standard cans. The test is now subjective to the testers ears anyway, which is bloody unfait when you think of the racket that your average Nove-ned or Corsa-**** makes with his piece of sh!t........

This seems the intelectual forum to tag my queries onto
I've now got Wilbers fitted to my 04 BCR but noticed by the sidestand angle that the bike must be lower (not sure if it is front, back or both

)
So........ what is the correct course of action?
1) Adjust the "Sag"?
2) Adjust the height?
3) Eat less pies?
(number 3 was a joke - any sensible advice appreciated

)
I think after hearing Andrew S's BCR that I'll remove the baffles from the cans - can't think why they fitted them in the first place.

OK Gromit, will see how things go. Will drop you a line. Thanks!
Can I buy your late, long stock shock Blackal?
I'm 6'3" so the height *should* be OK...
I once had an XR650 desert bike that was massively high!
