I'm in a quandry about my next bike, and it caught my attention that John Clarks in Dundee have a used R1200S, details as follows
Year : 2006
Reg: RK
Colour : Night Black
Mileage : 4815
Description : Heated Handlebar Grips ABS Anti Theft Alarm Sports Package

The price given is £7795, which seems to me to be a big difference from the new price which with those options would be about £10400. Am I wrong? What would explain this?

Priced to sell at a crappy time of year.
Is it an ex-demo that they are about to cough up to BMW for after 6 months credit and they are short on the cash flow ?

Sounds about right, especially at this time of year, as Lloyd rightly says.

South London have a 2k/miles old black 12S for the same spec for £8495 which I imagine will come down by 500 quid in a month or 2. Often happens in BM dealers - they'll try their luck at a high price then chip away at it until the bike sells.

Apparently it's one they've just bought in from BMW management, along with a couple of K1200R's as well. Could it be a press bike, to explain the relatively high mileage in 3-4 months?

I'd have just asked them, had it been me. Saying that I always ask about a bike's history before I buy it.

My first S (back in 1999) was an ex-BMW staff bike from Bracknell. Bought it with 600 miles on the clock and sold it a year later with just over 20k showing. Great bike it was and never missed a single beat.

No inside track, just happened to be in there and they told me about it. They've sold 7 R1200Ss to date, with another 3 new ones in the showroom. They originally offerred £750 off a new one, now it's up to £1,000, presumably want to rid of them before the Scottish winter sets in.

Does anyone know anymore about them changing the bodywork to allow fitting hard luggage? Is this just a rumour or something more concrete?

Managed a quick wizz around the bike show today and BMW have a 1200S with hard luggage on display. It has a fairly neat chassis to support the panniers but does appear to need a 20mm? hole cut in the side pannelling to accomodate part of the chassis. Panniers on show are the dinky curvy ones with bandings (sorry about the descrption) and the chassis doesn't look as though it would take the 1100 sized ones. If you need volume it will have to be soft luggage me thinks!

I bought my R1200S as an ex demo bike and have no regrets. Also get the advantage of full 3 years warranty (less a few months) as opposed to the nomal 12 months used bike version.

12 months is the minimum warranty on a used bike from a franchised dealer. As far as I'm aware from my dealings with SBW you always get the balance of the manufacturer's warranty whether it's an ex-demo, trade-in or bike bought in for stock. It's only for used bikes over 2 years old that they 'top up' the warranty to a year with a used bike policy.

That's what I thought but noticed recently that Ocean Plymouth BMW have a 1200S with just the approved 12 months warranty - maybe it is just website finger trouble!

They also want £9,495 on a yellow bike with sports pack that has done 4,500 miles - no chance!
