The oil breather on my back wheel drive (you know, that nozzle on the top) has started blowing out a bit of oil now and again. Anyone know why?

Is that what it is? I've always wondered
Dunno why it should blow oil unless its worn or there is too much oil in the diff

Hi
I would check that the level is correct.Too much oil would cause it to seep out.If the level is OK and as long as loads of oil isnt pissing out,i wouldnt worry too much.

Maybe water has got into diff via the breather (from healthy cleaning sessions?!) or maybe it was over filled when cold then has expanded when hot?

I'd guess one of three things:
1. Level too high (from over-filling or water ingress)
2. Incorrect grade of oil - if it's too thin it'll be more prone to fling.
3. Rear drive is over-heating and causing the oil to expand more than it should as well as reducing the viscosity.
