looking at a few twinmax sites and see that they sell little brass adapters in 5 or 6mm sizes. Are these to fit permanently in place of using needles and if so is it worthwhile to get them as well and in what size?

Tripe,

No need for the brass adapters. You just use the bits of silicone pipe supplied as standard in the Twinmax kit.

Can anyone let me know what web sites there are for the twinmax ? Are they really that much better to use than say a carbtune which can also be used on 4 cylinder bikes ?

I don't think it's a thing of being 'better'. Twinmax can tell you imbalance between 2 cylinders. A carbtune will tell you vacuum pressure of one or more cylinders. Both are used for the same purpose, but they use a different approach.
