S Goes POP

Post by BockingBandit »

My S was getting 'Lumpy',.. not revving much beyong 6K,.. then suddenly seemed to drop onto one pot, .. accomapnied by lots of smoke exiting from the exhausts. No nasty 'rattles' or 'grinding',.. and certainly didn't 'seize'. The bike will actually start but I had to get 'Recovered' to my home.
Please... any initial thoughts on most likely fault. I'm trying to convince myself that it wont have 'dumped a valve' or anything nasty like that.
Any help... much appreciated,.. but please remember that I'm a totally skint courier and try to temper any bad news with some easy fix solutions.

Geoff

(Adding insult to injury,.. My Bandit decided not to start this morning.. so 2 broken bikes and no work)

If you've checked that both plugs are firing and you don't have a vacuum leak on the injectors,I'm afraid it sounds like piston rings/holed piston/a burnt valve to me.
How do the plugs read?

Well.. what a day I chose to give up sniffin glue,.. I'm leaning towards the holed piston. I havn't had the plugs out,... caught without a pug spanner that fits,... and no transport until i mamange to breath some life into the bandit, ..... ah well. I'll keep you posted.

Just abrief question. If its a holed piston,... whats the likelyhood of damage going deeper?. Also,.. will i need to re-bore?. Or will it just be like a nice surprise waiting for me when i lift the barrel off and reveal all?.

I think Mal got away with a new piston & barrel, but Bonas needed a new motor. I tried searching for the post here but think they may be on the old Yahoo site somewhere.

Jason may still have my old motor.

I do have the old motor - I've got the barrels and matching pistons + a dismantled head with the valves etc. Just missing the right hand head which Julian has

Let me know - I'm sure we can sort this out cheaply

Hey lads,.. I really really really appreciate the help and I'll let you all know as soon as I've done some 'diagniostics'. Concentrating on getting the Bandit going ready to work on Monday. But it's not all bad news. Stripping the Bandit Carbs in the car park,.. i looked down in the gravel and found the 1100S faring screw that I lost a few months ago, ... 'Result'.
Thanks again.

Now that is my definition of an optimist !

Hope you get sorted and back on the road soon. Fingers crossed it's not too big a problem.

I'd agree it sounds like a holed piston - exactly the same symptoms as my 350LC used to display on a regular basis (after that tw*t Stan Stephens had his mitts on it - but that's another story). :(

Do two strokes smoke even more when they hole a piston?

Does this mean that from 2007,.. all '2-Strokes' will be banned from public places.... including 'Private Members Clubs',.. which I assume includes Track-Days?

Yep - but they'll still be welcome in the Houses of Parliament.......

Just an update on the 'S'. The 'Fix-It' faries havn't appeared yet, .... but I have found my long skinny plug spanner,.. that for me is 'Real Progress'. I think I better re-read Zen & The art,.. because the Bandit has taken over my life,.. when I'm not A: Riding it, I am B: Fixing it,.. and when doing neither A nor B, ... C = having bloody nightmares about A & B. However,.. still smiling.
