Help please!

Now warranty up, time to get on with the DIY.
Which is the best manual to use & ? ok to get off ebay

Any tips on preventative stuff, like what to take apart and put copper slip on just for good measure.

Anything must put locktight on to stop falling off ( also have harley)!

Anything likely to break without tip on how to get it off the bike

Lots of top tips on this site but is there a single posting pulling them all together?

Used to service both previous BMs R100rs till some sod wrote it off and R100rt ( we didnt get on) and still keep the harley away from the dealer whenever possible, but ? anything I should not try at home

Hi Vienna, There are no aftermarket workshop manuals for the 'S' as far as I'm aware Haynes and Clymer certainly don't do one. What I use and I guess a lot of guys on here as well, is the CD rom version of the official repair manual. It's not like the Haynes manual tho as it's written for the official repairers and assumes that you have some mechanical knowledge.

I bought my self a ream of paper and spent a day printing it out - far easier than having to keep refering to the computer!

You can get copies off ebay for a bout a fiver, but don't know what they're like, if you prefer send me your address and I'll make a copy and send to it you

The guy on the Haynes manual stand at last years NEC said they were producing one for the S for this season but couldn't give a date for availability. May be worth checking with them if you prefer to do stuff with pictures to refer to.
The one on CD rom that is freely available is good if you don't mind working off a list of instructions.

Haynes usually only produce manuals once the vehicle is well out of date and in the scrapyard Lloyd Have you ever noticed as well, no matter what make or type of car you have - there's always a photo of an old Sunbeam Talbot in there somewhere?

To be honest I've never been a big lover of Haynes stuff, they seem to have got worse with their vehicle manuals over the last few years as they've focused more on "general interest" books. Clymer have always been the better option but they don't do as many books as Haynes.

At least with the CD Rom we know all the info is correct, can't say the same for Haynes I'm afraid

Still no date. I haven't seen a recent bike manual from Haynes, but I'm not fond of the way they do the car ones now.

I found a copy of the manual after a brief search of the net. Is in pdf format and runs to some 26meg.It is the original bmw manual of 1999 so no four valve, and seems quite easy to follow.

Dave , I have printed that one, I wanted the pictures. Something to do with the type of mags I used to read!!!!!

Everybody I promised a Manual to - I'll get on it ASAP - ran out of blank disks and been a bit busy to go get some more.
