Aye it was good to meet you... felt weird in a way as I've read about most of your accidents I think
Mine was in getting the rear light cluster replaced as a good will gesture as I've been eating rear bulbs and getting a few eroneous warning lights come on. There's apparently a change between the 02 and 03 bikes because of that exact problem.
It was promised to be a 5-10 minute job but after an hour they gave me the keys to the R1200S.... apparently you have to take off the panels, luggage system, exhaust etc etc..... so not quite 10 mins.
Only down side is that I've not really been able to have a real tinker on the 1200S... hoping to get a bit more in on the way home
You'ver not recently fitted an after market exhast have you? My bike started blowing bulbs in the tail light with annoying regularity after I fitted a Lazer system to my bike. I put it down to the extra power liberated by the system causing the end cans to vibrate the filament of the bulbs to destructtion. Cured the problem by fitting an LED tail light.

You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.
It was a red and silver one.... but I don't think I went through Stroud (hard to say when you're grinning like a fool)
and I have recently 'refitted' a Lazer system. I asked them about that as I've read that it can be a problem but half the time I was getting the warning light coming on the bulb hadn't blown (perhaps it was vibrating loose?)
I was going to fit an LED tail-light assembly but I decided I'd rather let the boys at Vines have a crack at fixing it before I shell out £70 or thereabouts. In theory the later model light unit has more dampening built into it to combat the frequent bulb blowing problems of the pre '03 models with after market cans fitted...... I'll let you know if I still blow bulbs though
