Got back from there last night. Racing was truly incredible and the atmosphere at the circuit was amazing. We were sat on the Poggio Secco bends and as Rossi passed Giberanu on the first lap the Official Rossi Fan club next to us erupted!
The route down was quite an epic with closed passes over the alps. Made it down by going via Annecy , over the Col de Roseland and San Bernadino . On the way back took in the Italian coast road to Genova , thru the large valley to Turin and then over the Mont Cenis pass into France.
Bike now nicely run in with 3000 miles on. The rush from 6000 rpm to the redline is great fun! Much quicker than my old 1100S though seat comfort gives up at 140miles ish .
Avg 87mph inc stops on way back and still gave 40mpg.

Stu,
I am going to Misano next weekend and was also wondering about my route back. We have two nights on the coast, a little to the West of Genova, so I'd be really interested in the route down south from Mugello area (which of the many north/South roads/passes did you take to get to the coast?
We have a choice of cutting South from Forli or to go futher towards Imola before we cut South towards Firenzuola and Scarperia.
Was the southern coast road really busy or did you actually stay on the motorway that runs the same route?
Once we leave Italy, we are thnking of a route arond Mondovi, South of Cuneo and over the Col d. Maddalena and onto Gap. Any experience of that lot?
Any recent feedback would be great as I know some of these roads are in pretty rough shape, surface wise.
TIA, Rob

Winger , we wanted to do the loop of Susten , Grimsel and Furka ...but all were shut.
check out www.alpineroads.com for the latest info tho.
Rob,
we dropped down from Florence and up the coast to Genova. Around Florence was a pain as there are lots of roadworks but the run down to Pisa was fine. Up the coast was clear as well and we then cut up on the A7 which is the first north bound autostrada at Genova - valley something - great road btw. We then went round Turin and over Col Du Cenis which was great.
According to the alpineroads website they like that Col du Maddelena.
The autostrada from Bologna to Florence was good fun as well. A lot of tunnels but nice and twisty. Does get busy as you nr the rush hour tho.
The route we wanted to take was the ss65 passo del futa just below Bologna to north of florence. Its amazing and those that did it on the way down wouldn't shut up about it!!
