Fuel filter tips/Hg gauges Help please

I'm about to begin a 36k service and I'm wondering if there are any hints or tips with regard to swapping the fuel filter. I'm assuming that the large o ring I got from Motorworks in my service kit is the seal for the removable panel in the tank. I've searched the forum, but I could do with some basics as well as the complicated bits.
Do the fuel feed, return and overflow pipes have reusable clips or do I need to order extra parts before I start?
I think I read about dry -break in line connectors, but I seemed to find only the end of a conversation.
Can I use my BMW airhead mercury gauges for throttle body balance?
Do I need adaptors, or do the tubes just push on?
Where should I find cat code plugs?
What can I use to replace the split rubber bush that locates the over-centre clip joining the L/H and R/H side panels?

Fuel clips need replacing.
Make a mark(marker pen or scriber) on the fuel filter/tank interface before you take apart....makes putting back together much easier.Is a bit fiddly!
Your vacuum gauages will be fine....just push on like the 2 valvers.
Don't worry about the body panel bush....they all do that sir!

It is advisable to disconnect both wires from the battery before you take the tank off. Dont smoke. Dont do near the Bar-B.
It'll help to mark ONE of the fuel lines, makes reassembly easier.
Disconnect pump wire connector.
Tank needs to be removed to do filter; it'll start draining out of the fuel lines once they are separated.
The tank balance pipe will probably be under the wiring, so it too will need to be pulled off one end. Check for ancient water/rust/insects.
The tank breather/overflow is connected to the filler neck via an internal tank pipe, this will have to be disconnected to get the pump plate off.
The pump plate assembly, though tricky, will come out of that tiny hole.
The filter is directional.
Now here's that great BMW manual phrase, reassembly is the reverse of the above. Great patience is required. Remove all sensitive persons from audible area for the duration.
Cat code plug is/was in one of the boxes on the left fairing frame. Probably already missing.
DO NOT TOUCH THE THROTTLE STOP SCREWS. Adjust throttles as described here elsewhere, NOT AS OLD AIRHEADS WERE DONE.

TBH I've had the same fuel filter in for the last 100,000 miles..... If you use the bike regularly I don't think it matters. How many times do you change the fuel filter on your car? ever? It's a right royal pain in the arse to change and that's a fact
