Saturday was reasonable, looking at the forecast I knew it was going to be touch and go whether racing went ahead on sunday. Arrived down on sunday anyway, everything was an hour behind left for home an hour later ! Thankfully I brought the MZ , great for dragging out of muddy fields!. The patchwork quilt surface and historically poor drainage finally caught Mondello out.
Had to laugh in the bike park a northern irl reg bike arrived with a pillion. The pillion climbed off with his a*se steaming! . Had he travelled from N.I. with no rain gear (jeans only) ?

Think they must have had our rain from the weekend before as well as the usual Irish amount for a Sunday.

you only know half the story. It rained most of the way to Holyhead on Friday, and the wind was about force 7. The HSS stops sailing at about force 7 and a bit,so we sailed.That was the first bit of bad luck.Gwen was sick. We left Dun "Leery" in moderate rain to do what our friends with Irish relations assured us would be a 30 mins ride to the Hotel the other side Dublin. WRONG! We were in solid traffic for about 30 mins until we could see the new motorway 1/2 mile in front, and an accident with police ,fire and ambulance in attendance closing the road. They opened the road letting us join the motorway, with everything again stood still. After about 1 1/2 hours of filtering through traffic in torrential rain we arrived at the hotel .They all declined my offer of a ride along the coast before dinner. Instead we had the first of many dozens of Guiness.Saturday was fine and dry and spent inspecting as many of Dublins bars as was possible in the time we had.I think all the sunny periods were seen through pub windows. We thought Fridays rain was heavy,it was`nt.Sundays was. Another hour spent filtering round the motorway,followed by about 20 miles of roadworks,got us into a waterlogged field which a friendly local told me was Mondelo Park bike park. The track seemed to have been designed with the sole purpose of holding all the water from the surrounding paddy fields,and the only racing that could have taken place would have involved boats.The organisers offered their sincere appologies for cancelling,were very sorry they could not refund any money,but would try to give us a discount for next year. Gwen thought that was great news. It is a long time since I did any trial riding,but was pleased to get out of the bike/boat park with about 20 single dabs. We retraced our journey to the hotel . The traffic was still stood still on the motorway. It was not all bad, the food,drink and of course the "Craic " was excellent. Monday was wet and windy. We took the coast road to Dun Leery , the traffic was stood still all the way ( I thought they all rode donkeys). Now things got really good. The attractive lady in the check in booth said the next ferry leaving would not be our fast ferry at 11.15am Monday but sometime Friday. Have a nice day. We managed to get booked on the 9:30pm slow ferry from Dublin port. We went to Bray and spent 6hrs sat in a pub conservatory looking out at the sea and rain. During our stay here ,we were asked by a local if he could have a look at our bikes.He returned having inspected them,to inform us that the nearly new FJ1300 Yam had been resprayed, the Hyabusa was spoiled by the black bags, but could he speak to the BMW rider as he thought that was by far the best. After convincing the others what a fine judge of bikes he was, he returned to present me with a plate of hot chicken wings and a big hug,proving beyond doubt that as well as being drunk,he was completetly mad. The 9.30pm ferry eventually left at about 10.30 arriving in a very bloody cold Holyhead at just after 1am. A nice brisk 175mile ride home on almost empty roads was almost enjoyable,but not quite. I left Gwen in bed at about 10 am, still muttering about being cold. What would be the trade in value against a nice motorhome?

Ahhhh Reg,you do know how to butter it up there mate
The good thing about riding in Eire is the amount of respect you get from other road users.
I've not been for a few years,but would love to go back sometime soon.
We went in May and it nothing but sunshine all the way.

I had not been for about 10yrs,it is a different place traffic wise,and they have also developed M25 attitude. We recieved lots of abuse for trying to group together at the toll booths,as the first pillion was paying for all of us,and we needed to go through as one. Plenty of people tried to kill us with cars but smiled as they did it. Still a top place to visit though.

apparently,the ones that really suffered were the Munster fans trying to return on Sunday. The HSS had to ride out the storm for 6hrs in Dublin bay before they could dock it.This is how it got damaged. There were then no more crossings,causing near riots in Holyhead,resulting in both ports, and all pubs in Holyhead being closed by the police. There was one fan who missed his coach from Cardiff, had a taxi to Holyhead ,was charged £600 ,only to find the ferry cancelled.Said he had to get to work,Monday morning.Must be some job!

Nigel,

we were indeed ,staying at The Tulip Hotel near Swords,up by the airport. Nice new place, would recommend.(Will be even better when they have finished building it ! ) Went into Malahide Sat. night excellent restaurant and bars.
