Unfortunately I wont be able to come to Burton next week as planned and arranged. Due to some idiot of a lorry driver today not fully securing his load - a number of bricks were deposited on a dual carriageway near to my home. This deposit was just after the apex of a bend in the dual carriageway - fortunately I was only doing 50mph - unfortunately I hit them and I then become a passenger on a scary ride. The result was being thrown from the bike although somehow I managed to hold on. The front wheel was destroyed by the impact with the bricks so there were no front brakes!! I ended up on the central reservation a number of yards up the road. Fortunately plenty of witnesses to the incident however none of them saw the lorry responsible for the bricks. Anyway I have a trip in an ambulance to the local A&E. I have just got home now - no broken bones however the impact of the right footpeg hitting the rear of my right leg as I was thrown around the bike has resulted in a ruptured achilles tendon and massive bruising and swelling to the area. Other injuries amount to severe all over bruising but no broken bones. Just another incident that shows proper kit pays off when you demand it to look after you. Haven't seen the bike to know the total damage but the front end has taken the full impact and as I have already said the front wheel has been destroyed so the forks have probably taken a right good hammering and the headstock has probably suffered too. So that is one dead Suzuki SV and I am on crutches. I have to go back to the hospital next week when they will hopefully make a decision on the way forward with my achillies. They will do nothing at this stage due to swelling and bruising. All I know is that it bloody hurts. Especially when I didnt cause the accident but it will be my insurance that takes the 'hit'. Anyway hope you all have a great meet-up next weekend.

Good to hear your ok and in one piece - speedy recovery, I imagine you'll be a bit sore for a few days, tlc, ibuprofen or booze helps a bit.

Ouch. Sorry to hear about this - it's so frightening when you hear about offs when the rider could have done nothing about them. Glad the damage isn't more serious. take it easy and get well soon.

Sounds like you've had a lucky escape, if you know what I mean!

It may be worth looking at the insurance scheme that everyone has to contribute to via their premiums that covers for unattributable accidents, especially if you have several witnesses. I forget what it's called but your broker should be able to advise you.

The bright side is you get to ride another day, so easily some dont. Lost a work mate last week, who did not make it to a meeting using his bike last Wednesday.

As sad as it is to read about an off that wasn't due to rider error I keep them and show them to new riders who seem to think they'll be ok in their jeans and cheap jacket caues they're only going about 50-60mph

Thanks for the replies so far guys. It hurts more this morning as I expected it would do. With regards to the kit - both the paramedics and the A&E staff said that the decent kit has saved me from multiple breaks and an extended stay in hospital. Although sore - I consider myself lucky. At the end of the day the bike can be replaced etc thats what insurance is for. I will now be putting eBike insurance to the test when it matters and see if their follow up and claims service is as attractive as their premiums. For all those of you who are insured with them I shall keep you updated. The good news in relation to Burton is that Mrs m25 has renewed my exit visa for any such meet in the future so permission has already been gained should there be an 'up north' tour this year
