Is this the dumbest question ever asked here?

I'm almost embarrassed to ask this, but how do you make that little clamp behind the front preload adjustor release the side panels?

 :?

Got all the bolts out and tried for 15 minutes before giving up and putting them all back in. Didn't want to force it, those side panels look expensive!

Windy,

You just flick the clamp uptowards the handlebars, so that it's almost vertical, then wriggle it around until it comes free. It's just a rubber washer that is compressed vertically when closed, to expand horizontally to stay in place. A little squirt of wd40 down the hole, with the clamp upright will help ease it out. It's attached to the left hand fairing panel (as seen sitting on the bike) so you need to take off the left hand fairing before you can remove the right hand fairing.

Each fairing should have 7 screws holding it in place:

2 by the front of the seat
3 on each indicator pod
1 hiding near the air intake in the nose for the oil cooler
1 hiding underneath the front of the fairing screwing into the back of the BMW roundle badge

Hope this helps

Thanks Paul,

I was trying to remove just the RH panel, so that might have been it. I flicked it up, but it seemed very intent on retaining hold of the two panels, just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed anything obvious. Sounds like a bit more brute fore and ignorance is in order.

At least you have confirmed I found all the bolts

Just noticed this question and can say that you are quite right to ask ------ you don't want to force any of those plasticky fairing bits - they cost a bloody fortune if you break one.
