hi all, how much futher can i go when the fuel light comes on it comes on roughly at about the 100 mile mark its a standard tank also can some one explain the fuel neck mod how much more can you get in does anyone have any pics would be very helpfu

I take it you're 'enjoying' the bike then

I used to reckon on somewhere between 120-135 of normal brisk(ish) riding. Totally ragging it I got the light on in 92 miles - but that was caning the living daylights out of the bike.

...or commuting in slow traffic. I don't get much beyond 100 to the light on my daily commute runs, but that stretches out to nearer 130 on the Sunday bimbles or long a-road/motorway runs.

Jason, I don't think the fuel neck mod lets you get much more in, but it would speed up the process of getting the last half a litre or so in, as the air can vent more easily from the top of the tank, so you don't have to keep stopping and starting the petrol pump. To estimate your real range, divide the number of miles since your last fill up by the number of litres you just put in then multiply that result by 18 litres to give you an approximate range in miles.

Hadn't thought of that Paul - never commuted on my S.

By drilling that little hole in the neck you can fit in 1 extra litre...and it make s quicker to fill up.
TO do:undo all torx bolts around fuel cap.
Remove from bike completely.Electric drills and petrol do not mix.GEDDIT!!!
You will need to get a nice sharp metal drill bit.
About half way up the neck simply drill a hole(about 6mm dia).
Brush away all loose metal.
Re-install fuel cap....making sure not to drop any of the torx bolts into the petrol tank(like wot I did!).

Also, when you've done the mod don't fill right up to the top and then park on the sidestand in your garage (like I did ) as the petrol pisses out the overflow

When the traffic is really bad in London, I've had the light comming on at 95miles. In this case I've actually run dry in 137miles. But normally if the light is comming on at 100m you should get about 40 before you really need to fill up.

I run out out of petrol embarassingly often. I seem to have a phobia of stopping once rolling, and my warning light is bust.
So far it's always been between 140 and 150 miles, and i've managed to put 18.5 litres in everytime after (bog standard tank / filler). This has normally been under 'enthusiastic' riding on long runs. When using the bike sensibly, i can get 160, and even 170 (once) to a tankfull.
Since the light broke, i've had to keep a careful eye (obviously not careful enough!) on the clock, but the amount of noise comming from the fuel pump is also a good reminder when running very low.

One evening ended riding from M1 via A50 up the A515 (nice road) to Buxton with the little light on.
Every petrol station, Ashbourne and the one between Ashbourne and Buxton had shut. Typical ..............

180 on the trip. Mind you half the distance was at exactly 60 mph curtosey of a dayglow escort and very dodgy weather.
Lots of standing water.

thanks for all the advice i bought the bike just before xmas and i just cannot keep of the thing i know it has its small quirks but i love it its got character and i just love the handling and the engine it pulls like tractor hence the lowish mpg

Hmmm Just done Brighton to Coventry and back. Motorway work @ 90ish.
135 miles light on, filled up at 150 without running out.

Not run in proper yet, only 2500 on clock.
B cup rep so chip and pipe will make a difference.

Presume will get better as the miles go up
