Bike about to be written off
I was knocked off this morning (half way through a overtake of two cars, when the car in front also tried to overtake)
Nothing broken, (me) but the garage has phoned - estimate for repair £3,000, the question is do I accept the first offer from the insurance, or should I be looking at the replacement value of the bike? 1999 29k

Glad you're ok.
General ruule of thumb is never accept first offer, do some research of what 99 S's are going for retail and use that to bump the payout up. I'm sure Pidcocks will help you with info.

helmet looks like it has been done over with a angle grinder & my £450 BMW jacket has a small hole in the sleeve - both did their job well though!
what bike should I get next? not sure I want another 'S', after my accident, I might go for something more upright, GS would be nice, but out of my price range.

£6420 on a '53 plate with 13k miles.
The bike had heated grips, panniers, and an alarm fitted though so that's what I used to argue the initial offer up from £5750 - although I didn't have the panniers fitted for the off.
Damage to mine was estimated in excess of £6k
I have a photocopy of the CAP book prices at work so I'll PM you come Monday with their price if you like.
I would definitely ask for more after their initial offer comes through, get some adverts for bikes of similar age and condition (start looking now if you can as prices may drop as time moves on and that doesn't help you)
If you need a solicitor to puruse your uninsured losses, i.e. helmet, jacket etc... insurance excess if it's contested.... I can't recommend the guys I'm using highly enough. If you want a name and number let me know

Glad you are Ok - remember that's the really important thing.
When mine was written-off in Aug 2003 I got £5,250 with 25,000 miles showing. It was a 99 model.
I also got £1000 for my kit and £1500 for a bent finger.
As I was TPF&F it took 18 months and taking the TP to court.

I've just been to see the bike & it does not look too bad, broken RH FR indicator pod, head cover, exhaust, instrument panel support, & part of the frame ground down a bit (it's the frame damage that will write it off I think)
I'll go back in the morning to remove the pannier rails & handle bar riser kit - all on ebay soon, I also have a padock stand, that is no longer needed.
