Frame Welding?

My nephew's R1100S, stolen 18 months ago, has just been recovered. We hoped it could be driven home but found the lower subframe had been torn from the mainframe. The mainframe (dull grey alloy) has two tabs (eyelets), one on either side, to which the subframe is bolted . On one side, the mainframe tab is sheared off cleanly still being held to the subframe by the nut and bolt. On the other side, the subframe tore leaving the nut and bolt still attached to the mainframe tab and still holding the end of subframe.

I need some info to talk sensibly about the repairs needed.

What kind of alloy is the subframe attached to?
What kind of welding is needed?

Hi There,

It can be welded, as the frame to repalce costs £800 without the labour to fit it.

I would think any good bike shop that have repair facilities should be able to do it, or should know of a place.

Just find someone that can weld aluminium,Gus's bike is in my garage at the mo with all four lugs ripped of,shoud have been done by now but he's got other ideas.

If you go to the Pelican board, and go to search you will find some guys in the States have had brackets made to replace the lugs and had them attached to the frame, there are pictures.
