I noticed that the drive front rubber gaitor/boot is looking past its best before date. Is this something I should treat as critical for replacement? It's due for a service early next year, so will probably ask the guy to do it then.
Red wire is the battery charger.

You're right. I do believe I know the answer, but kinda hoped someone might say, "nah, it's just decorative. Don't worry about it." Ho-hum...

£545 says it's not decorative. That's what it cost me for a replacement shaft as the universal joint at that end decided that the moisture that had got in through the damaged boot was the last straw. The resounding bang and clatter, loss of drive and recovery home says 'Oi, replace the damaged rubber, it's only £40!!!'
The shaft only fits the 12S and is as rare as hens teeth second hand. It hurt handing over that wad of cash to Baldertons I can tell you. And getting the old one out and the new in, well, I ran out of expletives that afternoon i can tell you.
