BMW R1100S in Spain

Postby GerryB » Wed Apr 22, 2020 2:50 pm

I'm putting my bike up for sale, the ex Jeznewsome one .

Near Alicante , Spain

This is a bike for an enthusiast !

I had decided last year to down size from my BMW R1100S to a more manageable bike for my limited rides these days.
Age, numerous broken bones from racing are all combining to make it hard work riding long distances now .

So , I decided to put my beautiful BMW up for sale just a week before the lock down .

This was my third BMW R1100S, and the one I've kept longest of all.

The bike is first registered in UK in 2000 , and it is a pre ABS model .

The bike has just over 60 thousand Miles on the clock.

There is loads of service history, and its been relatively well looked after .

Its got all the usual scratches and marks, its been a well used bike, but not abused . I've ridden it 3 times from UK to Spain , back to UK , then Back to Spain.

It has the correct EU head light, and has been matriculated here in Spain.

There are various extras, that make for a great all round fun and tourer bike.

It has EMC shocks fitted,
K&N Air Filter
Braided Steel brake hoses front and rear
Pyramid rear hugger
BMW heated grips and original BMW switches, & looms.
Skidworks Larger clear screen, and a standard tinted screen.
I have the BMW oil filter removal tool
I have an ABBA stand with fittings .
The bike has a full tool kit including CO2 puncture fix kit under the seat.
Standard Centre Stand fitted from factory.
Standard seat cowl, screws safety taped.
HID headlight conversion dipped beam is available with the bike .
Spare oil filter and Brake pads
New Continental tyres
BMW panniers and inner bags, locks as in ignition key.
2 keys
Top Box on Givi rack
There is a battery lead and an Oxford Battery maximiser with the bike.
I have a tank bag that fits the BMW R1100S
I have 1 black Viper flip front helmets with blue tooth (including instructions and chargers)
ITV will be due in June.
I have the original BMW workshop manual on CD, together with Haynes manual.
I have a coffee mug of the bike, bought off E Bay a few years ago .
Lots of MOT certs, and receipts

The not so good stuff, usual lousy engine paint, blistered and peeled .
Usual early BMW clunky gearbox, but smooth when you get it right .
Boot scratches on the pannier boxes
Chips and marks on the forks , front fender and paint work, as you'd expect from a 20 year old bike.

The Price , 2200 Euros. or very nearest cash offer ,

If any one wants to buy this bike in UK, it is very easy to change the headlight setting for UK, and we can discuss delivery to UK .

A load of photos on Facebook , but to load them here I'll have to drop the file size .

Well, after a few wheel kickers, and a bloke who definitely wanted it because he had the same type of bike 15 years ago, then ducked out of the sale when I wanted to show him the bike ....

Its now back on the market .

My Suzuki is being registered as a Spanish bike now , so due to becoming a pensioner, and all the aches and pains from 40 years of racing, I don't ride this bike as much as I should .

Part of me wants to keep it, but it seems such a shame to just keep it parked in the garage under a sheet with the maximiser keeping it alive . I ride it once a week , 30 to 50 miles , just so nothing fails from standing.

If no bites this summer, I may consider breaking it.

Looks a nice bike Gerry.
It’s on a Spanish plate? I’m trying to learn the various rules and regulations on everything from buying a pad in Spain to keeping/riding a UK bike there (or a local bike).
My understanding is that I can’t ride a foreign bike that belongs to me on my UK licence.
Otherwise I could be interested.
Have you advertised it for the Spanish/European market? Another option would be to put it back on a UK plate? But that would be a smaller market to go for.
It looks far to nice to break. Speak to me before you do that!
Good luck with it.

Edit: Doh! Just read the first post again. Have you tried UK eBay for it? Once lockdown is over it would be worth a shot. I’m wanting to sell a car but not much point paying for advertising at present.

Yes Neil , its on a few Spanish sales sites here . A bit more expensive, second hand bikes and cars have a higher value, too cheap and they will think some thing is wrong with it .

With regards to the licence issue , its all a bit confused to be honest, mainly due to the brexit fiasco, rules we all took for granted have fallen away.

I am a Spanish resident , on Spanish driving licence , so I have no problems.
But I've heard a few folks moaning about driving a Spanish vehicle with a UK licence.
Some one told me the way to get around that is to register the vehicle as your wife's , then you can use it.

However, I've no proof that that is the case .

Buying a property here ??? Use a recommended local lawyer to verify every thing.
They have some strange rules here, and only a local lawyer can understand and navigate through them .
The last thing you need is to buy, then find out its illegal, no habitation certificate , no running water, no electricity and so on.

The law is harsh, if its discovered to be illegal, they will bull doze it, especially if its on agricultural zoned land .

If its illegal, in an urban area, with great expense and a year or so, you may get a habitation certificate, then they'll hook you up with power and water .

Time to make an effort to sell my old girl.

My apartment is up for sale, my dirt/dual bike is up for sale.
Second floor penthouse apartment, no lift !!!

Sadly age and deterioration of health is slowly affecting me .

COPD takes no prisoners.

Any one interested , please contact me, I've a bike trailer, so for the right price should be able to get it around .

I'm un-jabbed , so will have to sort out the stupidity of travel regs if I need to go too far.

Obviously, because its run every week , the mileage is over 60 thousand miles.

I also have an ABBA stand that the new owner will get for free, although it has the centre stand .

2 screens, one small dark tint, and one Skidworx slightly larger than standard.

The foot pegs are lowered 25 mm with a metal bracket.

Optimate battery charger with the bike .

I'm sad to say the old girl is sold.

But the man who bought it is a collector of Scooters, so for him, this is a new adventure !

He has a Honda , so not a first bike.

He is local to me, so hopefully I'll see the old bike often.

Funny , I gave it a good wash yesterday , man it looks better than before !!!

I hope I'm allowed to lurk on here , now that I'm not an official member any more !!!
