Well after my questions about 1200RS, some wandering about BMW / Independent dealers and a couple of test rides I decided, for now, that the 1200R was not for me now (suspension was no better than my KTM and there is still a rawness in the 1290GT that I love too much). I will almost certainly get one or a 1250RS in the future, if and when I grow up.
However in a couple of BMW dealers I was reminded how lovely the HP2 looks
I figured that if I got a good one and enjoy it whilst keeping the miles to a reasonable level then it shouldn't lose too much value and though the one I was looking at was 'Sold' at one point the buyer decided not to go through so ........ it is now mine.
Chuffed to little mint balls and looking forward to putting some quality miles on it - whilst respecting the nautre and value of the bike.
Picked it up yesterday. In the 50 miles I have done so far it is swift and very secure feeling with phenomenal front brakes. Mirrors are utter shite however so will be replaced with S1000RR ones soon.
Looking good Houston. In the best colours as well.
Looks like the original mirrors are still on it? As you probably know by now, they are only of use to check out your shoulders. A popular mod, remaining within BMW, are the S1000RR mirrors. Look ok and actually let you know what’s behind you. A bracket set from Sandbar is needed to keep the original fixing holes on the bike.
Then a Rapid Bike fuel thingy, revised handlebars and so on!
The R1200S heated grips is a straight forward fit and the dealer can add the symbol to the electronic screen.

Mirror mounts for S1000RR jobs are already on order from Nigel. I thought original XB9R Firebolt mirrors were bad until I rode the HP2. Just looking for a decent price on new mirrors, as £155 for a BMW pair is a little steep and there must be some decent pattern options at a more appropriate price.
And even though I appreciate the heated grips on my other bikes the HP2 will be sunny, warm weather use only so no need on that. Good to know it is a feasible option though.
Anyone got any good buys for a Rear Paddock Stand? How much faff is a 'Abbastand' type to use on these bikes, though ideally I want something that will allow the front and rear to be lifted simultaneously at tyre change time.

Try searching for, I think "constand" I paid just over £30 for mine for the 12s (in black). bizarrely the same stand in red was twice as much. look on the Ricambi Weiss site. They do the stands and although they're in Germany postage was very reasonable

The RR mirrors come up on eBay often enough, sometimes not been on the road, from guys that only want to track their RR. So you should get a bargain. Maybe check German eBay too.
Just a heads up Jez. When you fix the mirror mounts you will probably see a small gap at the base of them. This is normal as they don’t match the fairing absolutely perfectly unfortunately.
It threw me but I found something on line about it and was reassured.
I didn’t find Nigel’s instructions on ‘breaking’ the mirrors in so easy to understand so that took me a while to do. Having a vice helped. Perhaps allow a couple of hours for the whole job including a tea break!
