R12S parts availability

Postby golfgeezer » Wed Jun 19, 2019 7:45 pm

Before I make a wasted journey to my nearest Motorrad parts counter to be met by a blank expression I was wondering if anyone could tell me if oem parts are still plentiful for a 2008 R1200S?

In particular I’m looking for a RHS mirror part, not the full item just a part of it and also the rear seat cowl in silver.

Cheers

I think the mirror maybe common to a K series bike so should be ok. The rear seat cowls are expensive if available. There was one new on the bay and they wanted over £500!!!!!

Try giving Chester Motörhead a call. I’m sure Mr Parry of this parish will do his best for you.Alternatively Williams in Manchester sourced my seat cowl (wasn’t £500 either)

just checked a Lithuanian BMW parts site and it didn't say any mirror parts or the seat cowl were discontinued but they were all expensive. Might be worth asking here for the parts you want

Yes, but everything on a Lithuanian site costs x 3

yes parts certainly are dearer from Lithuania but when I was getting major surgery performed on my 12S I was checking part prices to get worst case scenario. Just checking an invoice I have to hand and the BMW price in UK for a left hand camshaft support bracket was £271.67 +VAT and on the Lituanian dealer site it is £439.53 so just over £100 more I know it makes a difference but like I said it gives a worst case scenario

Thanks for the replies so far. Before I give Motorrad in Chester a try as suggested is there anywhere on t’internet that gives part numbers and diagrams? I’ve done a search and couldn’t find much. The seat cowl is easy to describe over the phone but the mirror part may not be :|

Ok so I found the diagrams and looks like I’ll need a full mirror unit. I don’t need the glass or indicator so I’ll stick up a ‘wanted’ advert. You never know :?

The seat covers do come up from time to time. There was one on eBay last year for £99 buy it now and one sold yesterday on German eBay for £122 so not stupid money.

Try German eBay as well - seems to be a better stock of 12s parts as opposed to oil change “kits” and brake discs

Did you use realoem.com?

Always used that site successfully for BMW car parts, and it recognises my 11s chassis number so looks like all bike parts are on there too.

When I worked at a BMW car dealer, models had to be at least 30 years old or thereabouts before parts were discontinued. Maybe bikes are different?

Just echoing Heyho's comments. I was able to find all the part numbers earlier this year for my 2004 R1100S and I can see the R1200S is listed.

Here's the link: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select?product=M&archive=0&series=K29

You'll need to reset the filters for the exact model, region etc.

Good luck with the search.

Sorted now :thumbleft:

A mixture of a German Facebook group member coming up with a black seat cowl and using the knowledge above that a K1300S mirror is the same fitment ended up netting an eBay purchase. I’ll get the cowl wrapped I think rather than painted. Makes reverting back to its original black a lot easier in the future if necessary.
