R1100s Oil Filter Removal

Post by Ian in Higham »

Morning,

Ive just bought a R1100S and want to change all the oils but I'm having a nightmare trying to remove the oil filter. I have bought a genuine BMW replacement with the correct size wrench but this appears too small to remove the old one. is there a knack or two different size filter (or maybe its just a cheap aftermarket one). I reluctant to try the screw driver option.

Thanks

Probably an aftermarket filter , depending how much smaller it is the usual method is to use emery /wet and dry paper inside the filter removal tool and tap it over the filter . Don't use the screwdriver to punch a hole method ..... I've seen crankcases holed in threads on UKgser forum!. Luckily i've never had to use either method ... yet.

I’m reading it that the old filter is bigger?
Which Higham are you in Ian? If in alfreton I could pop up with my tool (ooh er missus)and see if that works.
I haven’t come across a larger filter before. Due to the recess it could be a bugger to get it out. Send me a pm if you are the local one. If you are in Barnsley then maybe there are others local to you.
