Hi, just re torqued front caliper bolt (40 NM) it felt odd then sheared ! Now ordered a complete new set from dealer and I am going to replace them all. Any thoughts as to why it failed ? Is 40NM correct ? Doubt it has been over tightened in the past (first time been off the bike as far as I am aware)..thanks

Did the bolt shear? Was it stainless steel or galvanised steel?

My workshop CD-ROM shows its the rear caliper bolts that are 24, fronts are 30Nm....that's for 1200 bikes though, which is what I assumed you had....sorry!

1100 models seem to be 40Nm, the 1150 ones show 30Nm too.

People frequently overtorque brake calliper bolts and they stretch. Probably original on a near 20 year old bike.

And some people change them for stainless which has nice bling, but lower shear limits.

According to Haynes, Non EVO brakes (10mm Allen bolt) 40Nm
EVO brakes (8MMTorx bolt) 30Nm

Update - I decided to replace both front and rear caliper fixings - all from BMW. So new fronts all good - rears however supplied with allen head not torx as per original. Also they are an inferior quality (8.8 v 10.9). Anyone come across this before ?
