Hi. Can anyone offer their opinion on running the bike on regular unleaded? Should I be including an additive and if so, what recommendations?
Many thanks
B

I'd advise running on super unleaded from shell or bp only .

IIRC you can get hardened valve seats fitted at a price...

Or, Frost Restoration do a lead substitute: http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-car-b ... 500ml.html.

Don't bother! Despite what some people may tell you, your 1980 heads already have hard (ish) seats fitted. By the time you've managed to regress the seats on an old airhead, just about everything else has already worn out! I rebuilt a '78 R80 recently with well over 200,000 miles on it. It had been run on unleaded since leaded fuel disappeared & there wasn't a sniff of regression. The valve guides were completely shot though (hence the rebuild) & In that time it had used up 2 gearboxes, a final drive & 3 sets of clocks.... Make of that what you will !
