So yesterday I got to test ride the Racer courtesy of Mr Parry at Chester Motorrad, This bike had zero miles on it so I had to be gentle with it, not least because it will eventually be someone’s pride and joy, but also because the tyres were also brand new and I didn't want to end up throwing it, or me, down the road!
So I rode it to the Ponderosa atop the Horseshoe pass, which, for those that don't know, is a big biker meet cafe, and it's fair to say that the Racer attracted a LOT of attention from the crowd of bikers present.

It took me at least 15 mins of answering questions about it before I could go and get myself a cup of tea.
So what's it like? well, its an absolutely charming little bike, full of character and yet oh so ride-able, the riding position feels a little cramped in a racer tuck when you first sit on it, but once on the move it feels very like my R12S, engine, gearbox and general manners all feel very familiar.The mirrors are fairing mounted and give a very clear, vibration free view and in a very neat touch, they are mounted from beneath so as to not leave any mounting holes visible if you where to remove them and replace with bar end jobs. as it was so new I couldn’t give it the berries through the twisties, but even keeping the revs down I found myself enjoying the ride immensely, I even managed to pass a couple of slower riders, who made their way over to me once they arrived at the cafe to saythat they thought it sounded marvellous, this is no doubt thanks to the stacked Akrapovic exhaust system that was fitted by Chester Motorrad in place of he STD can.
All in all I loved the little beaut, it puts a smile on your face as well as all those who crowd around it.
So would I buy one? well no, but only because I already have my R12S and this is just too similar in the riding experience, but if you've never owned a 12S, and want a bike for jaunty weekend blasts then this should be top of your list of bikes to test ride.

I've got my Racer test ride coming up.
What I love about my dealer is that they have a quota of test rides they have to achieve.
That means I get a call, even though I'm just a tyre kicker.
They know this, but always treat me as one of their valued customers.
I just can't praise them enough.

It looks lovely - but I still think the R1200S looks better - mine now looks extra nice with an all black engine

I've really come around to this bike.
It is absolutely exquisite.
I rarely say this about bikes, but I actually think it's worth the money.
Attention to detail is what bikes like these are about, and the Racer doesn't fall short in any way.
For example.
Have a look inside the fairing.
I couldn't see the electrical cables and connections you normally see cable tied to the mounting subframe on faired bikes.
Obviously it's there, but BMW have gone to great lengths to conceal it.
Brilliant.
The riding position is stretched out.
That'll steer a lot of people back to the **Thruxton, which is far more natural and relaxed.
It doesn't bother me.
The BMW is old school in the true sense, and I doubt it's target audience are going to be spending all day in the saddle anyway.
It's a local short trip feel good motorcycle, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
I love it, and I'm going to buy one.

** Worth noting that the fully kitted out Thruxton racer comes in at nearly 4 grand more than the BMW.

I agree, it's a very nicely put together machine but the stretched riding position is a non starter for my well upholstered frame If I was in the market for this sort of thing, i.e. a day tripper, I think I'd probably still look at either a Street Triple (with my patriotic post Brexit hat on), or a late model Guzzi Griso (with my heart, rather than my head). The whole retro looking bike thing doesn't appeal to me at all. Having said that, my RS does everything I need, so a second bike is not on the cards.

I did, I was just giving an idea of the range of our deliveries

The hallmark of a great dealership is their ability to instil in the customer, a desire to buy from them.
Ocean go to a lot of trouble (as I'm sure do most BMW dealers), to create a great atmosphere in their showroom.
You end up wanting to buy something, anything.
The last launch I went too recently, they were serving champagne like it was going out of fashion, and I bloody rode there.
I'd have got the bus if I'd known
