I don't mean to imply that Indian workers aren't just as capable as those from any other nation.
It's just that I like my bikes to at least have been assembled in their country of origin.
I didn't take it as bigoted at all - there's some right c**p made over there!
Aren't the 650 single engines put together in China these days? I suppose with proper management, China and India are perfectly capable of turning out 'German quality'.

Yes ... the G650 range had some components made in China I believe
The original F650 Funduro was assembled under licence by Aprilia (some components still had Aprilia stamped on them) .... I had three Funduro's and found them a fun commuter and back lane bike. The engines were made by Rotax but using BMW's 4 valve head design rather than Aprilias 5 valve.
The F650GS's saw production move to Berlin. Then when the G650 range was launched production moved to the far east again.
The loss of the 4 cylinder K series really p*sses me off as there's nothing in the range to take on the Japanese sports tourers like the GTR or FJR
The RT is great but hasn't the HP the 4's have

Yes, its a shame re the Ks biting the dust, its like the end of an era really - unless they have a change of heart, I'd have thought there was a market for them...or is it an emissions thing?

They were a design ruined by the accountants, the engineers had designed them well but at the time BMW allowed the finance department to run the quality control function. On a complex bike like the K4x's this was fatal and resulted in them gaining a poor reputation for reliablilty. BMW moved QC back to engineering but it was too late the poor K's had been tainted and it was decided to focus on the R and S range with the 6 cyl 1650 being the only remnant of the past

Those new Harley street 750's are made in India and selling well apparently.
So I guess if Harley purists aren't bothered, we shouldn't be.

I think I'm correct in saying that the entire new Bonneville range is built in Thailand. If the quality is good then it doesn't really matter in this day and age, and let's face it, BMW's quality has hardly been 'typically German' of late.

I have a bit of a problem with this.
If a bike is being sold to me on the basis of it's history and heritage, then yes, I most certainly would want it to at least be assembled here.
