New owner with queries Tank Removal and Fairing Bracket

Post by RonB58 »

Hi guys,
I have just bought a R1100S (1998) and although I have owned a boxer before (R1150GS) I have got some issues I need resolved!

The choke cable is sticking so I want to remove the tank to check/replace it. I have all the bodywork off so what is best way to remove the tank/seal the fuel lines etc.

Secondly when removing the bodywork the LHS fairing bracket (behind the BMW badge) was no longer attached to the fairing. How is this held on? Glue?

Many thanks,

Ron

Best way to remove tank is a couple of the small fuel line clamps which can be applied before you split the hoses from the coupling.

As you have removed the bodywork already the left hand fairing fixing is exactly the same as the right hand side I.e. A small screw into the back of the badge area.

Fuel tank removal.

Make sure you mark one pair of lines with fuse tape or similar to get them put back correctly on reassembly. Consider buying some quick release connectors to make things quicker etc in the future.

Cheers guys,
the problem is my fairing bracket was not attached to the fairing, and it looks like it was glued on in two positions at the factory.
I think if I take the BMW badge off I could use drill and two M5 countersunk bolts and nyloc locks to secure the bracket to the fairing.

Oh I see. Why not just glue it back in place with something like Araldite?
