Was removing rear brake calliper from bike and one of the bolts was tight. Ended up using a breaker bar to remove and wasn't happy about the threads. Ran a tap through but still seemed like too much axial play on the bolt. As a brake part decided I should try and find a new part. Seems it's part of the calliper. Anyone know of place that will supply replacement Brembo parts or suggestions? Thought about a helicoil. Thoughts please peeps

Hi Dave, rear brake is crap anyhow, i would just apply locktight and keep an eye on it, do you ever actually use it? other than steadying at lights/junctions/hill starts? Oh unless yours has ABS in which case ignore everything I just said

That thought did go through my mind Steve. I shall ask our BMW guru with inside information if the part is available and try a few other places but may resort to your suggestions. Not desperate as I do have other bikes to use!!
No ABS thankfully!!

Thanks John, I'd looked at it. It seems to be the correct caliper. Going to try Powerhouse Automotive first and see if they can source a part and refurbish the caliper. Last time I spoke to them they said they had a means of sourcing individual parts from Brembo so we'll see

The parts aren't available separately Dave, whole (silly price) caliper so a used one would be the best bet

Yep I called. Just having a coffee break at the time. I think I may get away with Loctite. Got a couple of options left and it isn't as if I'm relying on that bike

dont rule out helicoil ,,, aircraft industry wont let you tap alloy most of the time for a thread , you have to helicoil. same with a lot of motorsport as far as i know

Well, I managed to get a used caliper for £28!! Well chuffed with that. The numbers on the inside of the casting are the same as on my BCR and the numbers on the alloy carrier are the same. The only difference is the pistons on the "new" caliper seem to have a disc on the pad contact area whereas the pistons on the old caliper are hollow. Anyone able to explain this?
I think I'll get the "new" caliper refurbished but not sure about the pistons.

The calliper I got was advertised as from an R1150RS - as I said in my previous post, all numbers on the calliper match up but on checking on Rainbows parts thingy I find the part number for the BCR ends 1523 and the part number on the RS ends 1524. The calliper carrier is identical so that's the main thing but would like to get the other refurbished for next winter when I get round to painting the engine and doing a general tart up (waits for Al's comments re tart

)

Well the alloy part that had stripped on my original calliper has been replaced, sliders and boots cleaned and re greased, new pads fitted and all is well!! cheap fix!!

The "pads" on the pistons are to allow the fitment of sintered pads which generate more heat I believe

You could be right Steve. I spoke to the very helpful chaps at Powerhouse and they did mention about heat
