Ok ..I know that this isnt quite the right site for this query ...but you are all that I have ...and I imagine that quite a few of you have a bit of experience of 2 strokes ?
My very very ancient Aprilia AF1 125 is proving to be great fun when its going .. but a pain in the when its packs in after just 50 miles !!!
The problem is that the spark plug keeps oiling up ! I now know how to change a spark plug ... but id like to get a bit more riding experience than mechanics for now thanks.
I have been given 2 lots of advice so far ...either .. "rev the off it" ...or try hotter spark plugs ????? !!!
Can anyone second this advice ? ... or give me anymore ? (other than buy an R1100 S ?)
Check the oil mixture if its premix.
Clean the baffles.
Give it a decoke.
Use synthetic two stroke oil.
Set fire to it and claim on the insurance.
Rev the nuts of it if its male or screw the tits of it if its female.
Sorry for the last line have had too much red wine.

"I have been given 2 lots of advice so far ...either .. "rev the X off it" ...or try hotter spark plugs ????? !!! "
Valid, but not particularly useful advice. Using an out of spec' plug could cause serious problems elsewhere - in the worst case causing a severe lack of piston crown. (Anyway, a long nose plug would be a better bet for a pre-mix stroker running a high oil / fuel mix - BUT DON'T DO THIS unless approved by Aprilia (see lack of piston above)).
The "rev it" advice is based more around experience of poorly set up (or knackered) pre-mix strokers and is, frankly, wrong.
Given that your bike is 'ancient', I suspect you problem is more likely to be either a totally coked up exhaust system, or a problem in the fueling.
If, for example, you didn't ride it over Winter and didn't drain the carbs (as per the manual!!), then the resulting clogged up jets will cause a fuel / oil imbalance.
If the bike runs an injector (as opposed to pre-mix), which I suspect it does, then old / worn / stretched cables can also cause an imbalance.
Oh. Ignore that advice about fully synth - run it on what the manual specifies. Changing from mineral to semi-synth to fully synth whatever without appropriate adjustment of the fueling is, frankly, dumb. The 'pub talk' knowledge on this topic is just myth. Sure, fully synth is better, but only if you set the machine up to take it.
Imagine the list's reaction to "Hey man. Your BMW will really fly if you run it on methanol."
Sooo....not particularly helpful, but if you aren't confident to set this up yourself (and you do need to know what you are doing), pay someone who *does* know. Otherwise, don't faff about with it.
By comparison, 4 strokes are easy peasy.

Hi all,
thanks for the advice,
bike is presently in the hands of an ex-aprilia mechanic who is stripping her down for free ... I just hope that he will also put her back together.
I appreciate the advice though. And im quite glad that I dont need to rev the rear end off her to be honest .... it can be a tad embarassing when in the company of "proper" bikes !!
Re- doing what the manual says though ????? Manual ?????? sorry but we are talking old (as in decrepit old) !!! so manual !!! I guess it would be like expecting you to still have your primary school reports !! ......
.... no ...dont tell me ... you DO have them ?? hee hee
