Inspired by other 1100s riders accounts of repainting the engine front cover, I plan to refresh mine.
It has already been removed twice by trusty mecahnic, once to be powder-coated -when it looked a treat; and since to cure a persistent oil weep from it, using some sort of RTV silicone goo.
Now I want to get the thing off, and I'm finding it really hard to remove, and to get a stanley knife type of blade in to break the seal. Where do you guys lever to make a crack?

I'm fairly sure that those who have repainted theirs here (including myself) did so whilst it was in-situ. However, if you've already got to the stage where you are jamming a screw driver into it then I'm guessing that you have already taken the alternator belt and wheel off so you might as well take the cover off as well. I've not done that I'm afraid so this post is sort of redundant. Sorry.

You need to take of the black square plastic cover which the balance shaft sits behind. Remove balance shaft fixings. Use 2 of the torx bolts with penny washers screwed back in to the platic cover holes. Use a 2 legged puller againat the balance shaft and the torx bolts to pull the cover of. The liquid gasket holds onto the cover quite well. I take it you have already removed pully, alternator fixings and sensor/ wiring.

Had a look at the manual. It says remove cover. No special tool listed or how to remove.
Alternator ,pulley/belt removed. I would remove the magnetic gate. Use the fixing screws with some penny washers and use a 2 legged puller using the pulley shaft as your fixed point to pull against.
