I'm looking at retrofitting genuine heated grips to my 98 model, I'm hoping somebody can answer my wiring question given my workshop manual doesn't include a wiring diagram.
Does the factory grips only have a single heat setting (ie on or off)? If so, do the grips work by being provided with switched 12v?
I'd intend to get new RH switchgear and wiring loom eventually, however in the meantime I'm looking at rigging up my own loom and separate switch, preferably before the end of winter
My BCR was fitted with factory heated grips (by dealer) by the previous owner. The installation included the two position switch and new enclosure on the RH bar

Had mine since new and included the optional heated grips.
But it also came with uprated alternator to cope with the bigger load.
There is a two heat setting switch on the right handle bar controls cluster.
Local dealer said if they retro fitted grips they just fitted the grips. I can see the point of the bigger alternator but the local dealer said it isn't strictly necessary as the grips would normally only be on with the engine running and the smaller alternator would be sufficient. Not sure how far this is true. Switch comes as part of the right hand switch gear (or so I'm lead to believe)

On that basis- I fancy fitting a heated seat, pillion microwave oven, and oscillating fan heater to the screen.
'sokay though - as I'm fitting a KERS system I found in the skip at the back of Ron Dennis' house

I've already got them

I found a wiring diagram for the heated grips and it looks like the grips get straight 12v for their full heat setting with 1.9 ohms resistor added for the reduced heat setting. Should be no drama to rig up my own wiring.
I calculate the grips to draw around 22 watts each with the engine running, alternator is around 550 watts give or take, I'm happy to risk it and only worry about replacing the alternator if the battery goes flat
