So all you guys with Hex Heads:

Since I have had my R1200ST I have learnt several things which ain't in the manuals:

1) You cannot upgrade your headlamp bulbs (the ST has two twin filament headlamp bulbs) to a higher wattage - Canbus will just switch one of them off.

2) When your rear light filament blows (combined stop/tail lamp) your dashboard will give you a yellow warning triangle and a bulb symbol with a downward facing arrow which means check your rear bulb. - You will switch on ignition and see the rear lamp is lit you will press the brake and see the brake light come on. What you won't understand, and it is not in the manual, is that the Canbus system will imitate brake and rear lamp using the one remaining filament fooling you into wondering why you have the dashboard warning in the first place.

3) Not strictly Canbus but definitely not in the manual or the alarm manual
is the dashboard warning that looks like a AAA battery half empty and the letters DWS (I think). This means you have to change the batteries in the alarm control box - do you know where that lives?

Ok I'll tell you - it lives buried in the tail unit - remove the top box, remove the carrier, remove the rear light, and remove the seat lock, and you are starting to get warm. The batteries are the little camera batteries of the type that used go into 35mm motor-wind cameras (if you can remember those I think PX28) they have a shelf life of about 9 years so if your Hex head is about that age and has an alarm look out for this warning popping up on your dash anytime soon. :P
